I always thought the System cases on my '99 S looked like Princess Leah's hairdoo in Star Wars. So I thought I'd try the City cases.
System cases carry more and weigh 11 lbs. City cases carry less....quite a bit less I suspect and weigh 9 lbs and I don't drag my foot on 'em dismounting. But are they cool? What would Lisa Ling say? Maybe I just need to admit that I'm a dork and so is my bike.

You are a dork. A BMW dork that rides a donkey dorkcycle. A donkey dorkcycle with some abnormal donkey growth on each side in the rear. That said, do what I do. Load up on side with a cooler full of beer and ice, go for a ride, and it will all be better. Don't ask me how I know these things.

Yeah Bob I know what you mean. Thats why I went with RKA soft sides but I have very limited carrying capacity with those. Shannons right , we have more dork in us than we care to admit. But I think it adds to our already considerable charm.

I keep my system cases on all the time, but it's only once in a while when anyone can catch up with me to tell me how silly it looks.

I cant stand the large lids on the cases. I hardly ever use mine.
Just recently I got a used set of city lids, gonna have them painted to match the bike. Looks 100% better. Still dorky no matter how you slice it.

You think too much.
Load up the bags. Enjoy the funky handling. Ride. Repeat. |

It's called Dork-maturation, Bob.

Don't fret, if you didn't realize the S was a donkey dorkcycle before you bought it, you must be blind... still the best looking bags out there. Everything else looks out-of-place. Heee Haaaw!

I suggest you ride somewhere where you can purchase these items, consume them responsibly, and then get back on your bike. These items will now be located inside of you, the rider, and will be more centrally positioned on the motorcycle. Don't ask ME how I know these things.

what really makes it a donkey dorkcycle, is the fact that the bags stick out further in the front than at the rear!
I cut the mounts in the front, and redrilled the holes, so that the sides of the city bags are now pretty much parallel. It no longer has that bowlegged look. tony |

I always ride with just one sysyem case on the right hand side if I need luggage space. Two are making the bike way to big to be usefull for cutting to traffic jams and the city lit is so small you can hardly fit anything it and you might as well where a bag pack.I also made a small back that fits the mounting points of the seat cover. It doesn't look good but it will fit something to drink and eat for a day trip and a lock or mobile.

i try not to look at the rear of the bike when i'm riding with cases. Basically I'm in denial. which works great till my girlfriend giggles points and says 'your bike has a fat ass'. Women! Doh!

I dunno, Bob... That license-plate frame with the cute little red reflector bolts contributes at least as much to the D-factor as do the system cases.
P.S.--The city lids are definitely less dorky, and you'll hardly know that they're there. I ride with them all the time. (OK, so I'm a "closet dork"....) |

Dear plongo....I'll have you know that there isn't a license plate frame around my plate, and I turned off the blinker feature of the 4 reflector bolts...drawing too much current....what with the UV under-running lights and all. So there.

It would look alot less dorky if you put the same size lid on both bags!
