Helmet locking
I was gonna post this in the thread about dorky bags, helmets, helmet locks, and I'm sure that now there are some posts about why we should or shouldn't be at war there too, so instead I'll give its own thread. I know that the S has some cheesy tabs that they call a 'helmet lock'. That's great if you don't mind tearin' up your paint with the D ring. I thought about the cable lock, but that's just something else to carry although you could lock the jacket too. I got the helmet lock from LIDLOC.com and it's great. It locks the helmet to the handle and leaves it sitting on the top of the bag all safe and secure. Best thing is you don't need another key. A friend of mine also installed a helmet lock that bolts to the frame with tamper resistant screws like you see in the bathroom stalls (BTW, who the hell is getting their kicks unscrewing the walls in the restrooms? Obviously it happens often enough that someone decided that they need to use tamper proof screws???).

Either that second picture is at work or you have one H3LL of a shop! City covers on an RT, no less. Do they give any ideas what to do if your helmet does not have D rings? (like a Nolan)

Nolan helmets use a ratchet lock mechanism, no D rings anywhere on the unit. I'd seen the lidloc on their web site and was pretty sure they couldn't fit the Nolan. But I didn't find the close up photo to see how the thing latched onto the luggage. Thanks for posting it. Now I won't have to spend money to find out something won't work.

Can't they still just snip the helmet strap with a pen knife?
U-Lock to triple clamp or rim or frame (on S) or something I say! -Eff

Jerry, that's a cleaver idea and would work on all BMW bags. There should be a big enough market to justify the $1000 for the custom aluminum extrusion die used to squeeze out ten foot lengths of that stuff and cut them off in 3/4" lengths. A set of those would have been nice to have at Laguna this year. As it was I had to lock two helmets with just the straps to the cheesy stock R11S helmet lock tabs. Someone could have easily walked off with two nice helmets. Thanks for the tip.

I use a small, lightweight bicycle cable to lock our helmets to the bike when my partner and I are out for a days ride and wish to stretch our legs with a short walk around the place we are visiting and don't wish to be lugging our gear with us.
Cheers TREVOR

The cable locks that are made for firearms safety, specifically pistols, are about the right length for locking down a full face helmet to the frame. I will have to dig one out and try it.
And someone makes a long cable lock to go through the arms of your bike jacket and helmet so you can leave them on the bike. Cables coil up into pretty small packages. Maybe even just carry in a coat pocket.
