Can new jump-starter be retrofitted?
Has anyone tried to obtain the parts used in the new jump-starting system found on 2004 R motors? I checked with the parts guy at the local dealer, but he said that BMW has not even released the parts diagrams for 2004 bikes yet (?!?).
The setup looks like BMW drilled a hole in the plastic starter cover and bolted an insulated terminal there. I would assume that a heavy-gauge cable connects that terminal to the positive terminal on the starter motor. It would be nice if these parts could be retrofitted to earlier S's, but that would be asking too much from BMW. They'll probably release a "jump-start retrofit kit" in 2006--for $300. (They *should* offer such a kit for FREE, after putting that &@x?! battery where they did....) |

I would think you could get the parts needed to make a jumper lug from any welding supply.
