Worked great on my R65 many years ago after hitting a gasoline spill on the road and lowsiding. Slightly cracked the valve cover and did some grinding on it of course, but I rode it that way for quite a while before replacing it for about $75. Nothing else on the bike touched the ground. On the other hand, I dropped my K75S once and did $400 damage to the fairing. I like those built in 'crash bars' of the Boxers!

hardly...and don think the bmw head guards do anything if dropped at speed. my incident last year in a sub 40MPH fall in the wet, resulted in the guard snapping off and the valve cover subsequently grinding a hole for easy viewing of the valvetrain.

there is an aftermarket cover that is most seen on GS bikes that does a better job of cover the heads and then there is the replica carbon fiber covers with metal inserts for severe lean angles, but at $500 a piece, thats $1000 for the pair...it would be cheaper to not buy anything and if you have a spill, just buy a new valve cover if the bike didnt sustain any major damage besides the cover.

My 40 MPH getoff on the RT broke off the plastic guards but barely scraped the heads. I guess by the time the guard broke off, the bike was happily summersalting through the grass. When all was said and done, the cylinder heads on the RT still look better than the one's on my still functioning S.

BTW: I am up to 5 days in a row without wrecking a bike or a car...

that should be added to your signature...# days accident free. we have signs like that on our jobsites to help promote a safe environment.

Well this is off topic, but...

I was working at Ft. Knox for a bit on a project. On the way out was one of those signs. Number of days since last accident. Theirs said (I am not making this up) "NUMBER OF DAYS SINCE LAST FATAL ACCIDENT ". The count was running around 200 days until one evening we saw it go back to 1. Tough place to work I guess.

all those people trying to steal the gold. knox happens to be my birthplace, grew up crawling all over tanks and what not.

i think they were trying to make a point with the fatal accidents and have people drive slower. considering the post's speed limit is around 35MPH or (mostly) slower, hard to imagine fatal accidents on the post.

The question is probably not so much do they make them for the S, but rather where would you bolt them on?
