Question Sell Stock or with Bits?

I'm looking for opinions from the respectable members of this forum! Please chime in. ;-)

I'm getting ready to sell my '04 Boxer Prep. Right now it has about $2k worth of aftermarket bits on it (Remus Race Pipes, Laser Chip, Ilmberger hugger and front fender, SJ K&N Powerfilter, Throttlemeister, Cylinder guards, etc) and I'm trying to decide if I should return the bike to stock before selling it. I don't want to invest the time to do so, but I don't want to take a bath unnecessarily.

I'm considering the following in favor of returning it to stock:

1. I believe the average buyer will be willing to pay more for a stock bike because s/he want's the "cream puff" ... the one ridden carefully and never leaned over.

2. Aftermarket bits, sold on the bike, always seem to add very little value ... I'm guessing somewhere around 33% of what one pays retail.

3. I'm guessing I can get about 50% of what I paid for the parts on E*bay and this BBS.

I'm considering the following in favor of NOT returning it to stock:

1. MY TIME !!!!!!!!!!!!

Yes, I'm lazy and really don't want to take the time to remove the parts, box 'em and ship them all over the country. I'm serious about this point ... if I knew I could come close to what I'd get for the parts off the bike (say within $500) I'd probably just sell it as is.

Thoughts?

Cheers!

Dude,
No doubt you'll be able to sell all the parts, probably right here on the Pelican, at about 2/3rds of retail.
That said, it's your time and your effort.
Ditto what you said about cream puffs and value of the bike in the end.

No Brainer. You recoup nothing from add-ons that are left on the bike.

Sell the parts here, and sell the bike stock.

And if your time is worth $1,200 - $1,500 for a days work, then don't do it. But you could set a timeline and say "Any parts sold will be shipped on ##/##/##" and then devote that day to it.

I'll take the powerfilter, and an InDuct if you have it...ping me offline if you're selling the bits separately. (insert sound of vulture's wings flapping here)

Angry I know .... I just needed to hear it.

You guys are right. I knew that, but somehow I was hoping someone would give me an excuse to be lazy. I will, then, sell my bits separately.

Once I get the timing sorted out, I'll post a thread in the "for sale" forum of the BBS with pics.

Bingo - Unfortunately, I can't sell the Ilmberger front fender because I damaged my OEM one with a disc lock. But the hugger will go.

JonyRR - I have the SJ Powerfilter, but not the InDuct. I did buy that part a while back but it would not install on my bike. The mounting hole (for the frame) was about 1" too high and about 1/2" too far to the rear. SJ BMW gladly took it back. They weren't sure if it was a bad part or if the specs changed on my bike ('04 Boxer Prep). Once I get sorted, I'll contact you re: the filter since you inquired first.

Thanks for your input guys.

Front Fender

Bingo:

Just had a thought. My OEM front fender is not too damaged. The disc lock was on when I attempted to back my bike up. I heard a crunch and it split the CF on the side ... at the weakest part. It's still quite functional ... I patched it up with a sticker (lame I know, but it worked) and I'm just now replacing it becasue I want the bike to be cherry when I sell it.

If you know someone who can do CF patching or if you're cool with the sticker fix I'll give you a great deal. I can send you pics if you contact me via e-mail: kheadings"at"yahoo"dot"com.

BMW Roundel

Someone on this board wants to trade his 916 for R1100s. Being a 2004 bike, you may want to ask for for some cash plus the 916.

Hey Moki,

Thanks. Yea, saw that. I actually sent some other members (one who wants to sell his R1100S and buy a Duc) the info.

As for me, I've owned Ducs before. Once was enough. I love 'em when they work, I hate 'em when they break. The RC51 is compromise bike for me. Still a twin, reliability of a Japanese bike, sounds like a cross between my bimmer (with the Remus Race pipes) and a Duc.

I'm just looking to cash out on this one.

Heado, how much do you want for the damaged front fender? I'd take it if Bingo doesn't want it. It's gotta look better than mine.

Anton,

I'm going to pass on the front fender, sounds like his and mine are identical right now. I'm holding out for the hugger though :-)

Anton,

Send me an email message at kheadings"at"yahoo"dot"com so I can send you a pic. Once you see it, you can make me an offer. I will give you a good deal, I promise.
