OT anyone here know anything about aprillia milles?

hey all,
i've got an opportunity to buy an aprillia '02 Mille, the standard model. here's the seller's description:
Quote:
"It's a 2002 standard Mille, non-R. Pretty much bone stock. 18,000some miles. Probably about 90% of that on the track. It was a corporate demo bike that I bought directly from Aprilia (with 6,000some miles on it) after Josh Norem, who worked for Motorcyclist at the time, lowsided it during a Maxxis tire test at Road Atlanta. (I actually have a video of coverage on SPEED where they show it in a trailer.) The damage was mostly cosmetic, except for a clip-on, brake lever, & muffler, all of which were replaced. I replaced some of the damaged body panels and some decals. There is still some slight scarfing on the front fairing. It's no show bike, but it's a ball to ride! I've turned 28s on it at Grattan. I've never really crashed it, not counting falling over in the sand trap outside of Turn 3 at GingerMan after one of your fellow BMW riders lowsided right in front of me. the dealer had it to check for an oil leak, which just turned out to be the O-ring on the oil filter cover. While it was there, they checked the valves (which were all in spec), synched the throttle bodies, & changed the spark plugs (which looked remarkably good). Not sure what it's worth. Hard to find anything to compare it too. Did Jeff give you any idea? It's currently stripped of bodywork, since I cleaned it before I took it to Eurocycles to help them find any leaks. It also currently has some instrument panel issues, but Jeff had a couple at the shop that might be available to help resolve that problem. Once I get that taken care of, I'll put the bodywork back on, & you can check it out if you'd like."
my question is with 18k track miles on the thing, what should i offer for it? should i offer anything at all?
thanks,
lance

Go to MONTHLY SPECIALS.

I'm sure Tony will deal.

but what are those 18k miles on the track, worth? if my donkeybike is any indication, one mile on the track seems like about 10 on the street, in terms of wear and tear... does that seem to be taking it too far? after 2,000+ track miles my S is trashed.
I'm thinking i'd offer $4,500. does that seem fair? or too low?

4500 seems too high for a crasher with questionable bodywork, instrument panels, and a LOT of track miles. I'd log onto apriliaforums.com and ask around there. They're pretty reliable, but nearly 5 grand gets all kinds of well prepped, and lower mileage trackbikes. I have to believe another 2k would get you a bike needing a LOT less work and with a LOT more life left in it. This one doesn't feel good to me.

Good,

They are a MUCH better source than me.
I just know that is a LOT of trackmiles, and that it sounds like a project.
A LONG ways from turn-key

4500 dollars! Are you kidding...........2900 is more like it and I bet he takes it at once. I loved my Mille and have nothing but praise for them, however with that history 4500 is WAY too much. Don't fall for any notion that a race bike has extra special Karma or anything like that. Hold off and buy a never crashed, never thrashed one for about 5300. IMHOOC

Hold out for an older R version; you will get Ohlins bouncy-bits and OZ wheels for at least half of their worth.

a dealer friend of mine suggested $5.4k for it, but i thought that was way high. the bike as i remember it, was kinda rough appearing, but ran well enough. I might offer him $3k & see what he does. to be honest, i'm not in a big hurry to buy right now, i'm sorta testing the waters; the Mille is high on my track-bike wish-list...

I have a 2004 Aprilia Mille Factory. For 2004, the Mille's underwent extensive changes. 2003 and before are the old body style and I have seen many dealers dumping cherry specimens for a steal.

I'd either get a 2004+ Mille for a decent price or a cherry 2003 and earlier at a steal of a price. Yours is a crashed track bike. Not worth it.

I just sold one of my 2004 Mille Factories (track bike) for $5,000.

That's a Factory with Ohlins all the way around and with OZ wheels that was a 2004.

Crap, I'd have bought that.

Those wheels, for, and shock, would cost nearly that much to add to a generic Mille. Their early Factory, and later Factory-R models are real bargains for the track.

If I didn't want to gain more experience in the lightweight classes, the Mille R is exactly where I'd be putting my money.

THAT sounds about right. I'd have to think 3500 would be TOPs.
And they'd have to have the instrument panels (functional) at least available to make it worth it. $2k would be a deal. I wouldn't go above 3000, ideally 2500-2800, as listed. Remember, even at 3k, you're at that point, potentially only another 2k short of Oz wheel and Öhlins shock and forks. The latter alone would cost that.
At 2k, this is still a deal.

And vans are cheap, what with gas prices and all these days.

Seriously, that bike at 6-7k is a much better deal than the other at half that.

Does it matter what motor?
I thought he was just going to park it down by the river and live in it.
