Question special socket to replace spark plugs ?

After all this talk about different plugs, I checked my manual as I considered the proposition .. Says you need a special BMW socket to replace .. True ?

Any 5/8's deep socket will do if the walls aren't too thick. I had trouble finding a thin wall, so turned a standard one down to 0.840" OD on the lathe.
