I have slogged through hundreds of messages here about exhaust, chips, fuel pressure, in-duct, etc. I didn't buy my S as an ultra-performance bike, and I enjoy the low-end grunt and midrange, as well as the occasional foray into 7000 rpm+. If I wanted a screamer I would have bought a GSXR or some Jap bike with the combination of the letters R, X, S, whatever.
So my question is, will any of these mods you guys are always buying help the overall powerband, or just increase the top end? I certainly would never install anything which would sacrifice the midrange, and if I want lovely sounds I can just go drive my Ferrari (just kidding!). I rarely ride my bike over 110mph and it's completely stock at the moment. If I could get a significant kick without spending thousands I might be interested. Any thoughts? Thanks! |

Lennie's induct seems to create a more linear power curve. Combine that with an exhaust mod of some sort and I'm sure you will be happy!

...talking about Ferrari's. I happened to ride behind a Testarossa with race piping on a small country round some weeks ago. THAT was a great sound and the guy was obviously enjoying himself. I was so impressed I stayed behind for 30 miles just to enjoy the concert...

My bike seems better through the WHOLE range with the pipe chip changes... If you want to try inexpensive mods, look at the ibmwr list under tune-up and "super tuning".
The specific ones to check are timing changes and using the GS intake horns between the TB's and the air box. I'm not certain of the differences between the GS and S intakes, but the RS ones certainly were diffferent than the GS ones, perhaps ours are different also. Anyone have specs on all the options? R1100GS vs R1100RS vs R1100S vs R1100R vs R1100RT vs R1150 versions of the previous ones. Maybe we've found a way to tune our own intake power bands. Certainly I think combining those with the induct and a powerfilter set up should help. At least until I get my electric blower sorted out. |

I think the most bang for the buck would be the intake mods(filter&snorkel) with Cat bypass pipe next. This mod gives good power curve with increased torque. Then I would add Higher output fuel pressure regulator or wait for new adjustable chip from Lennie . These mods can be done one at a time as money allows. I've done the first 3 and I'm pleased with the extra low end grunt. Now I can usually leave it one gear higher in the twisties and it still pulls great with no shutter or bog it's almost like driving an automatic. Joe ![]() |

Rapt,
The GS inlet tubes from airbox to throttle bodies are different for the S and GS. It is a good option for the RT and RS though. Regards, Lennie |

*SIGH*
Well there goes that idea... I thought it sounded great on the RS/RT... Maybe I'll have to make my own then... |

You want midrange?
BBPower chip plus a Laser cat eliminator. Then, after setting the chip on 2 or 3 get someone to ride your S while you follow on a 600 four or a VFR8 for example on some twisties. The midrange will be visible from where you'll be sitting, no worries. The chip also saves fuel, believe me (and a few others, honestly). The Laser gives a slightly angrier bark to the exhaust (not much louder though) and makes the bike look so much better once that dirty great carbuncle of a cat box is junked. pip pip Richard. |
