Hey;
Talked with a good friend at the BMW dealership, the R1200S isn't moving out the door like BMW had hoped for Couldit be the Lack of saddle bags like the old R1100S had?? At 470 lbs wet, Mine weights in at 460 lbs! what would the weight be if you dumped the Cat? on the new R1200S? EZ-RIDER

The pipes don't weigh as much as they did before. My guess is between 10 to 12 lbs lighter if you replace the whole exhaust.
That was my experience with the K1200R and the R1200ST.

The 1100S didn't move out the door like BMW wanted either, and it had hardbags.

They may not be moving out the door........but they can damn sure move down the road. Dealer here has sold both of the two units they sent him. Customers waiting for more here in N. Florida. Will they turn in and hold or what. So glad that BMW has finally offered us a solo, lets go, no bag, no passanger, play hard bike. Its about time.

THANK FREAKING GOD IT DOES NOT HAVED HARD BAGS!!!!!
I pick mine up on Saturday - Blue Moon in Atlanta got thier first three this month. They sold mine a Red / Silver, a plain Silver. They have a yellow demo mule left if you want it. Atlanta BMW sold 2 and have just a yellow demo mule as well. So if you want one in Hotlanta better jump quick cause their moving out the door. Maybe BMW will add hard bags - heated seats - cruise control - XM Satellite Radio - and a espresso machine as retrofits quickly and sales will slow down. Also will give the classic BMW folks more to complain about. Can't wait the 72 hours to get my hands on mine!!!!

My R1100s has never had hard bags. Most likely never will. Don't need 'em, don't like 'em. The R1100s and the R1200s are not strong sellers because there are not than many riders interested in a sporting BMW. If they want a all out sport bike, the big four offer much more performance for much less. If they want exotic sport, a ducati, aprilia, or triumph can be had for the same or less. If they want sport touring, there are plenty of options out there that perform better for less. The R1100s and R1200s attract the small number of riders who want a sporting BMW. They are either BMW loyalists who want a sport bike, or sport riders who are attracted by the BMW features, telelever, shaft drive, optional ABS, etc. Would the R1200s sell better if it had provisions for hard bags. Maybe, but for me it's not that high of a priority. Lightening the paralever and rear end so it take bumps easier is a much higher concern.

im on the edge of trading in to get one but.....the GS is a fine bike and takes me cross country with ease and its fun to ride. there may be a way to keep the GS and get the R12S but it would take trading/selling my R6 track bike and the couple other bikes i have. the S would then become almost exclusively a track only bike..... much to ponder

I do not plan on taking my R12S to the track ever. Of course I don't do track days anyway. But it would just seem to me that it would make sense to buy a much cheaper and track oriented bike, used, that you wouldn't be as concerned if something happened to it while on the track and riding your butt off and being aggressive.
The "experts" from the rag mags are saying this really is a once or maybe twice a year track bike but not a primary track bike. I'll post some pics of mine on Saturday when I get home. Or probably not cause I'll be riding it non-stop into Monday morning without sleeping probably.
