OT: photos of interest - not specifically about moto
We need a place to post photos that are off-topic, work safe, and different. Here's my first contribution.
Shot this a couple of days ago on the way to work (in my cage). Interesting alignment of subjects I don't expect to get again any time soon. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1171753799.jpg |
|
I'd be up for this if it could stay in this forum. Different folks in OT...

Somewhere Near Circleville Utah An infamous train and bank robber grew up here. |
This was taken February 2nd on the way to work. This is just south of the little town of Princeton, Iowa, looking SE. Looking over Mississippi River, which has not frozen over (reason for vapors rising). Conditions were about 2F (-17C), winds at about 20 mph (+30 kph). The parhelion, colloqually called a Sun Dog, is caused by light reflecting and refracting off ice crystals in the upper atmosphere. The steady winds align the crystals so they act in concert. Usually only visible in high latitudes and/or cold winters.

And just like the guy whose feet are too big for his bed Nothin' seems to fit Those raindrops are fallin' on my head, they keep fallin' So I just did me some talkin' to the sun And I said I didn't like the way he got things done Sleepin' on the job Those raindrops are fallin' on my head, they keep fallin' But there's one thing I know The blues they send to meet me won't defeat me It won't be long till happiness steps up to greet me Raindrops keep fallin' on my head But that doesn't mean my eyes will soon be turnin' red Cryin's not for me 'Cause I'm never gonna stop the rain by complainin' Because I'm free Nothin's worryin' me [trumpet] It won't be long till happiness steps up to greet me Raindrops keep fallin' on my head But that doesn't mean my eyes will soon be turnin' red Cryin's not for me 'Cause I'm never gonna stop the rain by complainin' Because I'm free Nothin's worryin' me Looking for Kathryn(?) Ross to peek out of the window |

Delta sunrise on my way to work. Farm fields submerged in an amorphous lake of ground-eminating fog.

Leaving early in the morning to ride, has rewards... I seldom get to see the sunrise since I am not a morning person.
The morning mist was exceptionally heavy on this July morning. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1171829815.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1171829843.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1171829865.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1171829884.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1171829907.jpg The beginning of this Video shows how pretty the morning mist is to ride through... http://www.bswartz.net/341_part1.wmv |
That's the video that starts with the misty-shower-singing scene, too. I always thought that was damn funny!

Here are some pictures of a hike I did a few weeks ago. A trail in Zion National Park called the Angel's Landing. Its called that for good reason, as some of you that may have done it know.
http://onfinite.com/libraries/1114229/87a.jpg The Park entrance. http://onfinite.com/libraries/1114230/87a.jpg Lower part of the trail. http://onfinite.com/libraries/1114231/87a.jpg Getting higher (keep climbing!) http://onfinite.com/libraries/1114232/87a.jpg You've been warned... http://onfinite.com/libraries/1114233/87a.jpg The objective. Top of the fin. 1,200 foot sheer drops on both sides. http://onfinite.com/libraries/1114244/87a.jpg Onward and upward. Don't let go of the chain. The ice is a little slippery! http://onfinite.com/libraries/1114287/87a.jpg The Top. Don't turn your back on anyone... http://onfinite.com/libraries/1114247/87a.jpg Peeking over the edge. http://onfinite.com/libraries/1114248/87a.jpg Heading back down across the fin. http://onfinite.com/libraries/1114295/87a.jpg Safely back down. |
Someone needs to put 2006 Nikon D80 in their signature line... Awesome stuff!

It can get scary, especially if you have vertigo. |
....I loved that hike! Funny though, when I went up there in late September, there seemed to be a lot more people around!
...and a lot more chipmunks, trying to steal your food! |

Better than charbroiled rats! BTW- that was San Ramon Royal Vista. Not far from Sunol. I hit a few with a teaching pro there before that round, then par'd the first three holes. I thought I had found the holy grail, but then the wheels came off.
