Bike running lousy 1500 miles after service

Right before the 6,000 mile service my bike ran terrible. After the valve adjustment and throttle body synch. , it ran great. Now, 1500 miles later it is running terrible again. I am taking it back to the dealer again. I don't believe I should have to pay for another adjustment. Why did the valves go out of adjustment so quickly? Any thoughts? Thanks

Hmmm..throttle cable not properly seated? Unless they didn't torque the valve nuts properly

Did you remove the cannister? If so, check that the rubber nipples over the vacuum ports on the Throttle Bodies are not cracked and leaking air.

For the most part the valve adjustments on these bikes are rock solid. They probably won't go out of spec after 10,000 miles.

You have something else going on.

I also must mention that I have the bar backs on my bike. Is it possible that the throttle cable does not have enough slack?

I would say very possibly that could be part of your problem.

Could be. Can't imagine why you'd think it was valves. 1500 miles of good running means the dealer probably did it right.
Check those cables and for any vac leaks

Bike running poorly 1500 miles after service, problem solved

I had Long Beach BMW repair my bike with 7,300 miles under warranty. They replaced the coils and spark plugs. They said that this was a common problem on these bikes. The bike runs better than it ever has. In regard to acceleration and engine response it reminds me of the new R1200R that I test rode. The rear seat latch spring had broken which was also replaced. That three year warranty saved me a little cash!

kenmat, I am having an issue with rough running. The problem is intermittent, but happens most when the weather and the bike are warm. Was this the case for your bike? I am curious, because my dealer has had two shots at this problem and it isn't cured yet. They replaced one of the plugs and coils which helped, but its clear that it wasn't the full issue.

Question

Island Dude,

Sounds like an issue my bike has. I'll call it a drivability issue. My bike has a stutter or hick-up anywhere between 1,200 to 2000 RPM. Does it only occasionally. Is most annoying when at slow parking lot speeds when the hiccup will cause the bike to buck a bit. Does this when warm and seems to get worse hot. Took my bike back to dealer after 12K service as the idle was set too low. Faster idle helped the bike run better in stop and go traffic, but still got the hiccup.

I considered putting my stock chip back in as I put a laser chip in with like exhaust to see if problem persists, but havn't taken the time to do the work.

I thought that one of the primary coils might be going bad, dealer says no. Haven't had the $$ to just buy a coil and see if it makes any difference.

Brother Pelicans - anything sound familiar or any ideas??

hiccups huccips...have seen in on other R1100S's and mine, even with the PCIII, still exhibits a right cylinder lean misfire, AKA the hiccup. i have been able to tweak a bit to minimize the issue, but it still happens from time to time. when it was at its worst, it would misfire and try to force the TB closed and i could feel in in the throttle grip.

when i took everything apart, the right side TB was dirtier, the velocity stack was grimier, etc. anytime i have oil in the airbox, it is on the right side. suspect the right side intakes a bit of the oil and it fouls a bit faster than the right side.
