Rear Turn Signal Mod

I made a few post about the "stealthification" of the rear of my R11 BCR, and I ended up putting some marker lights on in place of the stock signals. They looked cool, were certainly stealth, but they were almost imperceptive when they were blinking, and I kept feeling like nobody behind me knew which way I was going, and when you top all that off with the fact they aren't DOT and wouldn't pass inspection in July something else was obviously needed. I put the stockers back on and figured I am better being seen than looking cool. In the process of replacing them I realized they were 2 piece (seems like they were designed to break the stalk) nice design, and I got to thinking. It looked like I could shorten it up just by cutting piece of the end off, and I did just that. The following pictures detail the process, and finished product!

Cut at the first notch, and voila!

All of this web needs to be ground out with a Dremel.

Post Dremel work.

The stalk needs to be ground at the leading edge to clear the tab on the lens, courtesy of Mr. Dremel.

The finished turn signal pod.

Stock stalk.

Stealth stalk!

And the finished result!

I think it looks great, has the awesome visibility of the stock lighting, and is a full one inch narrower in the rear (1/2" from each pod). I have seen some other smaller signals, but they don't seem to be the right proportion, I did like the marker lights, if they had any light output I would have left them on, but now I have the best of both worlds, hope you guys approve!

Very nice.

Added good touch: getting rid of the amber. You can buy silvered bulbs (make sure the bases are exactly the same) or give a light spray of silver/gray BBQ paint to the out-facing side (make sure it is the correct side) of an amber bulb.

Either way some little loss of brightness and possibly heat shortens life but with the spray paint you can spray as thin as you want and lose less than with silvered bulbs. And save about $10 per bulb.

Nice work...isn't it always a pleasure to make one's own unique modifications?

Nice work...thought about doing the same thing after I broke one of mine... you have pulled me in. I went the stealth route as well... just not enough light back there, so I'm going back to stock and adding the running light option.

I put these in my indicators and this in my tail light (integral ABS version available too). Very bright, very fast response due to the LED 's and no bulbs visible.

They are plug & play, so no need to change any signal relays or messing with resistors.
