See the pole supporting the truck (if you can call it a truck) between the two rear tires, right rear... I'm sure thats the only thing from keeping it from tipping... Plus my super-human strength.

It could be a Tonka really close to the camera.
And I thought I had a rock problem in my back yard.

The first guy should have went for a smooth double apex instead of trying to back it in.

foreman: "Oh my god! Who put a planetoid on that truck!?"

classic example of going too far on worn out tires.
if he'd of replaced them after the last ride, it might not have slid out in the corner.
(then again, maybe he's a friend of ivan).

Here, you can study the rear end in detail...

I want to jump in the big tire and just start running, that would be SO much fun! :)

John Lyon 05-05-2007 07:47 AM

Has a different tire on the right rear. Must be extra sticky for qualifying.

From the local employer...yes it's the largest in the world. The Engine is mfd in Lafayette, IN (two 3512 V-12 Diesels in tandem) and the Truck is mfd in Decatur, IL.

There are 100 of these trucks ("Off Highway Truck" in Caterpillar speak) working at the Tar Sands in Canada. One load of Tar Sand yields ~200 Barrels of Crude Oil.

not the largest in the world anymore.
liebherr has a 400 ton beast (surely you all went to the Bauma 2007 trade show last week, right?).

it also needs ohlins suspension.

That "pole" is a rock pick. It is a steel plate that hangs from the dump bed in between the tires. Its purpose is to kick out any rocks that become wedged between the tires. As you can see from the size of them mommas, the tires could pick up boulders the size of a Volkswagen....

<<not the largest in the world anymore.
liebherr has a 400 ton beast>> One of those beasts was on display at MineEXPO here in Vegas back in 2000.....the cost to transport it here and set it up was reportedly well over 100G's

How many barrels of crude does the truck use to to pick-up and deliver one load of Tar Sands?

I knew you'd ask that...evidently not enough to keep them from paying for themselves.

Darn those lofty Swiss Folks...beat us by 20 tons!

No I wasn't at Bauma (wish I could'a)...I'm here at the Proving Grounds testing Software on E/H Skid Steers and Back Hoe Loaders. No suspension really unless you count the air in the tires.

Fenring 05-05-2007 01:45 PM

Are those engines 2-stroke turbo diesel like in locomotives? Do they use electromotors on the final drive?
