Rear Main Seal Oil Drain Hole

Is there a small oil drain hole in the engine housing below the clutch? Mine isn't leaking, but someone insisted that a tiny hole was put there at the factory to keep any oil leaking from the rear main off the clutch. There's no oil on the flat pan below the tranny on my bike (shined a light in there to look), but I thought I'd ask.

It's all open from the outside up underneath to the Clutch and Rear Main Seal...no need for a special drain hole.

When you have a rear main seal leak you'll know it because the flat pan below the tranny will be wet with oil and dirt.

By the way there are two rear main seals. One facing the outside and another further forward on the Crankshaft. Crankcase Breather Air flows between them. When you replace them be sure the outside one is flush (not pushed all the way forward).

a drill hole is often added in underneath the clutch slave cylinder to allow its fliud to exit the clutch area if it decides to fail. that way only the slave dies, and not the clutch plates with it.

maybe that is what the smoke blower was blowing at you.

That's a possibility, although he specificially said engine oil coming from a leading rear main, and not slave cylinder fluid. Oh well, ain't gonna worry about it. Thanks for the input.

2valve K100's. They have a hole in the bellhousing in the area described to you. If you see oil dripping from the hole it is either rear main or trans imput seal leak. Newer K bikes. No drain hole. tjs
