Talking OT: Watch Dorkery!

I am a self confessed watch dork and own more than I really need, mostly Automatics. My favorite watch however is the Omega Speedmaster, first watch on the moon.
Its the 50th of them being used by NASA and Omega launched a website for it with some cool clips.
Check out the Speedmaster 50th Anniversary Site

I've got the addiction as well, certified WIS(watch idiot savant). My favorite Omega is a 68 Seamaster, very accurate watch. The watch addiction has cut short my cycle money BUT, they appreciate in value and it's money well spent. My Patek Calatrava's have done VERY good in the market the last five years or so.And the vintage 14k Rolex's I picked up a decade ago have tripled in value. Not a cheap hobby, but fun and potentially profitable.

And a lot easier to pass down through the generations than a bike, too. I'm still a little taken aback that I got my grandfather's old pocketwatch when he passed, that he had gotten from his grandfather.

Currently wearing a Vostok all-titanium self-winder, as electronics has a way of dying when I wear it. Decent time keeper now that I've regulated it myself.

In the future kids will wear painted-on watches or just access the clock chip in the USB-C (Universal Serial Bus - Cranial) socket in their head. Not that any of the bustards understand what "being on time" means.

My collection has 13 Omegas - mostly Pie Pans and Seamasters. I now just collect IWC - both new and vintage.
At one time I had about 50 watches - evrything from JLC, and Patek to Zenith!

It's a nasty habit, and fortunately easy to hide!

Wow - v.cool - I'm right there with ya'll - I wear to work a David Yurman self winder - but my favorites continue to be Tag's. They just are always indistructable to me. My worse experience was with an EBEL -

I also have a Vostok, a Seiko Black Monster with custom face and hands that resemble the GMT Master, a Citizen Nighthawk, my only quart, another Seiko Diver, and something else I am forgetting.

I'm tinkering with a watch case design for my son (and maybe myself). He wants a "huge" LCD "movement" (he's 6'8" - 203cm). The "theme" of the case is based not-too-loosely around Disney's 20,000 Leagues Nautilus. That, and a secret metal alloy not currently being used much in jewelry.

One of those "maybe I'll make this someday, yeah, sure" kinda projects.

Omega Pie Pan

IWC Mark XII

I haven't worn another of my watches since I got this about ten years ago. I wear it every day, all day. It's an IWC SS Aquatimer.

While those are all very pretty, I want one like ckcarr has, that tells you worthwhile info... When you are outdoors, like temp and altitude....

Another watch dork over here so here goes. I've got an Tag Heuer S/el certified Chronometer in brushed stainless, a Fortis Spacematic Day Date with steel bracelet and see threw back, a Casio G-Shock Glide(for work or sports) and the latest is an Officina del Tempo Swiss made witch is a limited run of a 1000 witch has a handwind Unitas movement in it brushed stainless case and see threw back. The Officina is back to the dealer though as it started to run silly fast all of a sudden last sunday(4 seconds fast a minute! while it ran perfectly up till then at only a second fast a day) so hope to get that back soon as I realy enjoyed the watch up to now.

I don't wear a watch, and I don't know what time it is, and I don't care. Is that bad?

I don't wear a watch, don't watch the clock during the day and when camping i always judged "time of day" by how much daylight was left. All because as a kid I always smashed any Timex I had to bits when playing ball or sumthin'.

I do wish I had a cool pocketwatch to Will to my son. Tyhats a cool tradition.
