Capital Reef National Park Ride
Just a few pictures from my hot ride today through Capital Reef.
This travelogue has probably been done before in the past. If so, just change the channel. The gnats or no-see-ums were out in full force, biting and chewing. Could not even take the helmet off. If you did, they would all fly inside it and drive you crazy. ![]() ![]() ![]() Entering the Capital Reef Scenic Drive ![]() ![]() ![]() I see the resemblence. ![]() The pick of the litter. ![]() For history buffs. ![]() Iconic Factory Butte rising from the desert floor. ![]() At the trails end, the trails best - dinner.

Looks like you got rid of the "factory butt", when you added aftermarket exhaust ... How much water do you need to carry with you when traveling out in the desert like that?

Craig... Nice pics as always. Can't see them all for the WiFi in this La Serena, Chile cabana is kinda slow, but can view the first few, and I'm nicely reminded of the distinct beauty of this place. Nothing like it in the world.

Steve,
I'm glad the pictures reach out to Chile and make you feel more at home. Even if your home is about 400 miles from Capital Reef. And I know you have an affinity for Factory Butte. Capital Reef has got to be the most relaxing, quiet National Park around. You can really lose yourself there if you want. Unlike Arches, that has become a constant rush hour of frantic tourists zooming from one icon to the next.

Beautiful images! You've got more killer landscapes out there, that's for sure. Amazing.

Steve,
Jane and I plan on being in Utah in Sept. (9/3-9/11). We plan on going to Grand Canyon during that time also. When will you be there? Philip |

I thought about it, but hadn't planned on it unless I just make it a day ride and back.
Are you?

Beautiful!
When is the best time for a trip out there? I want to aim for Denver and Pikes Peak first and then cruise around and finally end up in Glacier Park and then head back east. I've been near there in July and it was HOT ... is September cooler but still dry?

Great chart ... even September looks too warm .. of course it's a dry heat
Ooctober looks good but too late in the season for Beartooth pass and the other higher rides. Last time I was out there heading to a MOA rally in Flagstaff and then on to the Grand Canyon and finally the coast it was 110 and my key ring thermometer on the KRS was reading 115 .. whew. I really wanted to see Death Valley but was warned to stay away as it was over 125
