newbie intro and '04 BCR questions and advice please
hello everyone,
i just wanted to introduce myself. i'm going to buy a 2004 Boxer Cup Replika this saturday. it's got 3200 mi on the clock and from what i can see in the pix, she's clean as a whistle. it's the white and blue paint scheme. i currently own a '95 R1100GS that i bought new in '95 and i've been wanting a more sportier bimmer... first off, i just ran the VIN on carfax and dmv.org and it came up invalid. strange cause he does have the title. does anyone know if the taller racing suspension came standard on the '04 model? there seems to be conflicting info on the web. anyone know where i can find all the info and specs on the standard package? where can i get a good price on the laser exhaust and chip? any other setups or mods that anyone's happy with? thanks in advance

As I understand things the yellow springs came on the preps and reps. They do make the thing sit a bit taller, should you install a centerstand you'll need a lift kit on the cs. Unsure about the racing part. I haven't ordered any hypo things, the previous owner had them done. Re the vin affair, I'd make the sale contingent on getting a good title in your name. There's too many for sale that won't have any problems in that area and your DMV girls may not be as friendly as they are here. Jim

Welcome to the forum, agypsy!
The sport suspension was included with the Replikas and Preps, as Jim said. The standard SAs did not include it. It's really only taller in the rear because of the shorter paralever arm. The shock is actually slightly shorter (4mm, I think). Not sure what you mean by "info and specs on the standard package." Do you mean the Replika package, or the standard SA? Which info and specs? I think the '04 BCR (Replika) came two ways. Standard and with ABS and heated grips. Factory or aftermarket heated grips can be added easily. ABS cannot. I'd have a dealer carefully inspect your prospective purchase and review the service records. I'd be curious how often the fluids were changed in the last 3 years. Is it still under warranty (less than 3 years since originally sold)? The sport shocks still suck compared to aftermarket shocks. Many (myself included) would recommend installing Ohlins (for example) ahead of an exhaust and chip. You can buy them new from Pro Pilot Racing for $1,547 new, set-up, dialed-in, with the right springs for your weight, and including more warranty. Robert Foster is the place to go for the Laser system, for sure. He's an active member here "boxercup." Other popular mods/accessories include a tankbag, tailbag, luggage, seat, and Power Commander (vs chip). You may want to look into some sort of protective coating on your belly pan. It chips up badly as the miles accumulate.

..that is where a unique combination of Air density, altitude, average temperature and humidity (couped with the fact that it IS the only blue/white BCR in the vicinity) make for that statement to be true

thanks everyone for all the info.
so I found a couple of sites where we were able to confirm the bike's VIN. And i got a fax copy of his title, so i think i'm good to go. unless anyone else thinks i should keep checking and where? and where on the bike can i find the bike's production #? i know it should be 1 of 300, right? http://www.bmw-z1.com/VIN/VINdecode-e.cgi and this is from germany: http://www.bmwarchiv.de/vin/bmw-vin-decoder.html
