Accessorizing: Power sockets, alternators, etc.

Forgive me if this is a repost, the search function returned nada on this particular question..

I have a 99 R1100S and while it has heated grips and some other options, it doesn't appear to have an auxiliary power socket. I'd really like to add a heated vest or some sort of heating device to boost cold-weather comfort, but I'm not sure how I would go about doing that, especially since I'm not sure which alternator I have, the standard 600W or the 700W option.

1) Where is the accessory socket supposed to be? I checked around the front, by the gauges where the fuses are. Couldn't see it. I also checked around under the seat. Nothing there either. Could it just not have it?

2) How do I find out which alternator I have? Are they marked?

I need to get a warmer jacket regardless (current suit is perforated), but I graduate from UC Davis this December, so who knows where Christmas break will take me?! I'd rather have it and not need it than need it and not have it haha. Thanks in advance.

The socket is located below the seat on the left hand side near the exhaust, part number for the kit is 71607671607, this will mate to a spare connector under the seat on the right hand side if it was fitted.

I ran a Gerbing jacket most of last winter. It nominally draws 77 watts/6.4 amps. Most usage was on a KLR with a +-200 watt alternator. My commute is only ten minutes, never needed to put the battery on a charger. The S should have plenty of juice.

I added a SAE type connector up by the gauges to power my GPS & phone. I tapped off the LH fuel block (up stream) for that.

I checked, there's nothing there. Then again, my bike's completely missing that evap canister (it wasn't relocated, it's literally missing) so who knows what else has been taken out by the original owner :eek:

It is worth adding the power socket, even if you don't plan on running heated gear, etc. It is a great location to plug in a trickle charger. Don't worry about not having the cannister, it is a pretty common mod to remove it.

I'd also add the battery jumper post on the starter http://forums.pelicanparts.com/bmw-r1100s-r1200s-tech-forum/256144-retrofitting-starter-cover-jumper-post.html , since the battery is a very tough access.

Miran- the socket wasn't standard equipment. I think the lower-output alternators came with the '99s that didn't have ABS. Either way, you should be fine using an outlet.

My bike has ABS (and heated grips). I'll check that stuff out. Thanks guys, you rock!

I'm planning to add the powerlet accessory port to my new to me '02 BxC Prep, anyone have a photo of where the OEM wiring harness mates to the spare connector mentioned above, or can you describe the connector?

It's under the seat by the diagnostic plug.
