keep 'em coming Hugo! we know you have better ones than these. ;) |
That tail section with the exhaust is so cool. Seating position looks pretty upright and comfy to.
|
what show will this likely debut at?
|
The valve covers are different and seem to bluge where our R12S dont. This is very exciting. We are WAY ready!
|
wow...what the R1200S should have looked like to begin with. its not much of a pic, but THAT could be something worth buying.
repoe3 |
...we've seen that exhaust before...
...on one of the 3 black bikes, just before the Le Mans 24 Hours started... ...see if I can find the picture... |
...got it...
http://snelleeddy.punt.nl/upload/BMW_478.jpg ...the bike in the back... ...just wondering ; what will happen with today's R1200S...?? ...did they stopped production ? ...do we have a collectors-item...? ...or do we have something 'un-sellable'...? |

It'll probably end up like the gs and the hp2's
|
I doubt if the BMW R1200S will ever become unsellable Ron, even secondhand C1's are beeing sold. That exhaust on the bike in the back has got some similarities but I think the one in the new picture has a bigger opening at the back and also looks a bit bigger but still very cool.
|
...so ; after the double-anus exhaust, we now have a 'stingray tail'...??

This bike lust is killin' me.
What I want for Christmas: new R1200S HP new Aprilia Supermoto new R1200GS new Husky TE510 That should do it for another year. Man, I gotta quit surfin' internet motorcycle forums! |
Ohh, don't worry. This fall there will be a lots of picture of the R1200S HP on the forum. I will promise you that...

Overall engine width is less than a R12S, air box exit size has increased and the actual air-box may be larger as well, T Body size up 2-mm?, perhaps the wheelbase has been shortened, valve train may still be pushrod.......but even if it is it has been redesigned in some way, (I think the valve train is without push-rods) the aerodynamics of the new lowers is very sleek and overall wind tunnel test may read down into the low 3's, light rear rotors, modern front pinchers working on thin disc, serious brake and clutch levers with light weight line and carrier system, and of course the "no resistance" exhaust system, now working with valve timing and lobe ramp peaks matched to the H C (lite weight) pistons that have been select for higher RPMs and more work load..................all these are reasons for seeing some good prices come up for R12S units, now for sale, which have more than done their job to get us all ready for this new Street HP 2 and the performance it is going to offer us all. Come on BMW.............."If You Hold Back You Stay Back." Anything like we are seeing in the photos will be really something........count me in.

I like the look of the present r1200s better.

i wonder if the side panels have markings for side cases...
|
No point in side cases... the tank would be too small for touring anyway... buy an ST. :p
|
It will be introduced on the Paris motorshow with first press rides/test oct/nov.

What will happen to the R1200S?
Tasty, very tasty but with the $$$ getting weaker every week vs the euro the price tag will be nasty;25000 euros=30000$...outch!
It will end up in the carpeted and heated garages of a few collectors but no big seller for sure. But a nice "image-bike" nevertheless... To speculate on Ron's question what will happen to the R1200S? If BMW was smart since they have now the "real sports boxer" the R1200S-HP should be supplemented with a R1200S-T Sportstouring brother as the spiritual successor of the R1100S a lot of riders are obviously still waiting for;hence the retirement of the R1200ST and weak sales of the R1200S. Bring on the options available on the R1100S for the R1200S! And a nice factory luggage rack that was unfortunately never available on the R1100S and of course the big 23 liter fuel tank from the R1200S-HP that is so wasted on it without the ability to mount R1200R style bags...;) A nice a R1200Sportboxer and a R1200Sportourer that would be cool! Yummy... Otherwise what a waste of a nice fuel tank without bags on the HP-S...;) |

No 1967 R50/2 what you see is a bulge in the Dr.'s pants him looking at the HP-S...;)But I think it will disappear quick when he sees the price-tag...:D

I would but the ST has that hinge in the middle feeling!!! |
will go fast parts trickle down to the ordinary R1200S? are they even compatible? the thing looks out of my grasp otherwise.

I “love” the new R1200S HP2 !!!!, but still like what is now, or will be the “standard” R1200S. I find that my R1200S has plenty of really world HP/torque, handling and gas mileage for the “streets” and is comfortable enough to due 300+ miles a day, which is necessary for me to get to areas where there are less cops & chp to deal with. Also, I like the looks of the standard” R1200S, for to my eyes it kind of has a timeless, art nuevo/modern look to it. In addition, I hate tank bags and only use tail bag, which may not work conveniently on the new HP, and even if it did, by the other photos I have seen of it, it appears to be a smaller and focused machine – anyway one reporter’s opinion.

Nice!
Very nice!
Any idea when it'll be available? Am itching for a race bike to add to the collection, and as of right now it's the 1098s. |

It will be a nice Halo bike for the R's and it will probably help sell more R12S's due to its limited production to 200 units and the high sticker due to the hand built nature as Bobby wrote ealier in the thread. The R1200S will be a better road bike compared to the more track focused R1200SHP imo.
