which is the best oil do you guys recommend for the engine-trans and rear axle? also I just bought this r1100s is there a good parts house to buy parts for these bmws or is the dealer the only place? thanks for the great help good day.

oil is the most thoroughly discussed topic in the archives. chicago bmw is where I get most of my parts on line.

I use what is recommended in the manual. 80/90 GL5 Castrol Hypoid Gear Oil.
You can add 3-5% moly in there if you like. You can get the moly additive at bearing supply houses. Dow Corning makes it. Last time I bought it was around 30.00 a quart. I usually split it with someone.

I like Chicago BMW for parts too but I don't believe they will ship fluids.

auto parts stores, and K-Mart, sell necessary fluids. shipping is cheap- they'll fit in your saddle bag.
