Safari users - a question about this forum

Fellow Mac users, I have a problem. Safari crashes on me every time I try and do a search in a Pelican Parts forum. Other actions on the forum work just fine. Safari does not have the problem with other forum sites (like i-bmw.com). Mozilla works OK for me here at Pelican Parts.

To summarize:
Safari + search on Pelican Parts = crash

Anyone else with this experience? Ideas?

MacMini G4 with 10.4.10 and Safari 2.0.4
Thanks.

FWIW, I use the Windows version of Safari and have no problem with Pelican Parts searches.

I am on a Mac both at work(Powermac G5 Dual 2ghz, running OS 10.4.10) and home(Powermac 2Ghz, running OS 10.4.10).

I was fine using Safari before the last forum update. Since then Safari will browse fine but if I try to PM or Search it will shut down on me also.

I ended up using Firefox and that lets me do everything. I am not sure what the deal is??

I use FireFox on the mac with no issues and I just tried Safari 3.0.3 and no problems with browsing or searching. Try downloading the most recent version of Safari since it looks like you are on 2.0.4.

Here's the link:
http://www.apple.com/safari/download

Also Safari on my iPhone works fine for this site.

IMHO FireFox is the best browser on the mac.

Same issue. I have a Powerbook. I too was able to search up until relatively recently, now my browser closes.

Since the search is performed on the server and not your computer, my guess is that the html page sent back from the server contains some html or javascript that when run on your version of Safari - it crashes.

So, I'd download the newest version of Safari as I noted in my prior post and see if that fixes it.

Update:

I shouldn't have presumed it crashes when you perform the search.... Does it crash when you select the 'Search' text link in the toolbar or after you enter your search criteria and perform the search?

I just looked at the page source for the main page for this forum and it looks like there is a ton of browser detection going on and some fancy popup menu div tag stuff and AJAX for the search link in the menu (toolbar). My guess is that when they updated the site recently, they added this popup menu javascript for search (I don't remember it before using FireFox) and older 2.x versions of Safari can't handle it. Maybe the developer of this site can chime in and give us some info...

...Firefox is far superior anyway, why not use it?... I haven't used Safari in a couple of years... to many short comings... much like our government!

It sounds like the consensus is Firefox or Safari 3.

I was avoiding Safari 3 becaue it is listed as a Beta, so I expected it to cause problems like this instead of being the fix.

Thanks to all who responded. I'm glad to know the problem isn't isolated to my machine.

Seems like it takes significant time for Safari 3 to settle in after installation. Just gotta love technology...

Safari 3.0.3 does have some probs with PDF plugin(s) - can ( and does ) crash when so used.
Other than that ( and remember it *is* beta ) it's quite a bit bettah than 2.x ...
