R12S double-bubble screen

…finally I got my dark-smoke Puig-double-bubble screen…
…ordered it in July…

…so…

…does it fit as nicely as the original BMW screen…?

…nope…
…not quite
…you can almost throw the stock screen at its place…
…and the Puig screen needs a bit of fiddling around…
…and those screen clips on the OEM part do fit a (tiny) bit better…

…does it look as good as the original BMW screen…?

…don’t think so…
…somehow you can see, especially just above the headlamp, that the Puig one is aftermarket…

…does is scratches as easy as the original BMW screen…?

…NOPE !!…
…you just can wax and polish the screen without seeing the famous scratches you see on the stock part…

…do I like this dark-smoke version…?

…YES, I do ; it is even a bit darker than BMW’s black screen…

…what I liked about the stock screen is the dark grayisch inner fairing part which you can see just above the headlamp...
…and with the Puig one mounted, it is gone. At least gone with the black version…
…the screen ends (or begins…) directly above the headlamp…

…but most important ; does the screen work…?

…don’t know…; the weather is crap over here…
…so I just have to wait a few days (or months…)

...well maybe tomorrow...
...the forecast is dry, less wind, and maybe a bit of sun...

stock screen

the Puig one ; you can see, the screen is noticeably higher

and the looks from inside

from Puig's website

Ron, how about a picture from the side? I'd like to see the curve from the front to the back.
Thanks!
Looks great by the way.

But.....but....you haven't blown your cover. You're still a mystery. Are you in the Netherlands?
Nice pics of track work on the other thread btw. Anyway...fill out your profile just a bit....give us an idea who you are. Most of us don't bite. And welcome aboard.

Bob, what were you doing at Bit and when were you there? I was at Ramstein AB for 4 years ('78 - '82)...well my squadron was there, but we were all over NATO Europe.

I was flying the F-4 with the 53rd TFS (a NATO tiger squadron) from '74-'77. We also flew all over Europe, Zaragoza, Spain being my favorite. Anyway...that's when I got my new '77 R100RS and PCS'd by riding to Rhein-Maine, putting it on an Air Icelandic 747 and meeting it at Dulles. The biggest moto-mistake I ever made was selling that bike.

So... fighter pilot, huh? Don't know you at all, but now you're my hero!! (childhood dream).

BTW did they build that brewery in Bitburg only to supply you guys?

Visisted it a few years ago: it's so big you can actually hop on a tourist train to take a tour through the brewery!

Tasts good too! So: "Bitte ein Bit!"

Or the phrase that I understand they had to stop using cos it was maybe false advertising...."Abends Bit, Morgan fit." Sometimes I wasn't so fit. But it is good suds. They'd deliver to your house and leave it on the front door step....kinda like the milk man. Great place....hated to leave.

526 TFS Black Knights, F-4E WSO for me. Did Zaragoza quite a bit, too. Make the Tubo runs?

Then we went straight air-to-air, so started going only once a year to hook up with the USS Kennedy and get some gun time. Most of our TDY shifted to Sardinia. In '79 we set up an ACMI range at Decimomannu Air Base. After Deci went operational, it quickly became my favorite TDY. No external tanks, all air-to-air. Did time in Turkey, too.

Funny, but I had a R100RS, too. Dean L. & Chris H. put it together while I was in training in CA. I shipped it to Germany. Lots of fun. Did you make runs around Nürburgring? It is close to Bitburg.
