I believe you use the two jam nuts that are located just above the lower shock mounting point to adjust shock length... aka ride height? That way you don't have to compromise preload for seat height.

Im sure i read on here as stock its on lowest setting already for ride height, as i was going to lower mine some as its just a bit to high at times for me!

and was going to lower preload some but not sure if should even try now with this plastic ring!

MOst of the stockers I've seen, were indeed already at minimum height at delivered. The one exception might have been futzed with, so who knows.

The preload with plastic is still doable, but it works best with the rear end unloaded and believe it or not, on a cold day (less flexible plastic) with a cold bike and motor.

Use the factory 3 prong wrench, not a conventional/generic single hook wrench.

Cool, i think i have the 3 pronged one i know have to one to adjust ride height:), will try it before warranty is up i think in may so atleast if it breaks can claim it then i hope! im sure in owners manual there is no mention of unloading the back or anything so they cant say you did it wrong!!

Ride height comes preset from the factory at the lowest setting.

Indeed, unloading the shock is the answer, as it worked for me. The 3 prong wrench won't matter, because the plastic ring will still "jump" the thread. But this is only a problem when INCREASING preload.

The early bikes came with a 2-pronger. I posted about this when I picked up the correct 3-prong from my dealer.
