Introduction Time

Hi Gang;

I have been one of the lurkers here for many months.
I have read most of the posts to help me figure what bike to purchase.
I have also replied to the odd post from people trying to sell they're bikes in the for sale section.

Finally, my new R1200S has arrived. It had to travel all the way From New Mexico to Washington and now has been imported into Canada.
I am still a week or more away form riding it. I have to finish off all the import paperwork before I am able to insure the bike.

So a little history........................ This is my 28th motorcycle and 5th BMW.
In '74 I purchased an R75/6 and have been on boxers ever since.
The other 4 were all R100's. I still have my old airhead that I purchased new in '82. I have not been with my wife that long!

I road raced a boxer in the Pacific Northwest for 9 years and had a great time, but our Canadian dollar back then made it too tough to compete. I think it got to $.60 at one time. So it was time to move on.
Now I road race bicycles..........it's a lot cheaper, but it sure is tough!
I can hardly wait to get the new beast out!
So thanks for letting me enjoy the site and all the tech info.
Now I can start to contribute!
Cheers.

No, too expensive to have somebody else do the importation. I had it shipped to Washington.
The shippers managed to break the right mirror in transit.
Anybody know if it can be repaired?

Well, Bubba.... ya think that might be the reason as to why it's the "BMW R1100S/R1200S Tech Forum"???

See, Droptarotter... geniuses like Bubba here are the reason for me to keep coming back for more... LOL

Dang it felt good to get one your way again, Mr. Edwards... lately it was to lopsided in your advantage!

Welcome to the board... it's fun and (as you have already found out) informative (sometimes)... great board!

There's beenmore talk about the GS than anything else of late Ralf. lol I thing the USA well for R12S is drying up as they find a home. Have you noticed the lack of resales? I have.

Well, my friend... I might very well be the next one to slide over to the "dark side"... if all goes well, even before the Arizona Ride! Wouldn't mind doing that on a 12GS... if not, then I am in no rush and will get the best deal that comes along.

The 11S will go on the block soon and the Sportster may very end up there as well... we'll see. I have been eyeing a GS for quite some time now. Definitely going to keep the 12S until the track day with Nate is done and over with... but then, all bets are off! Might keep it, might let it go...

Shouldn't the shipper be liable for the mirror if they do a pre-shipment inspection and an off-load inspection? I've never used a contract shipper.
I like the GS with the low seat Ralf.

I have been in touch with the shipper and they directed me to the insurance company.
I need to get them parts/labour estimates for the claim before i proceed.
Hopefully they will reimburse me.

I hope the avatar does not break any forum rules.

If you can see the bicycle, it is a Fixed gear Marinoni, similar to one that I race.

Truth be told, it would be nice to ride the other object in the photo also.

There were times, if given a choice, I'd have taken the bike...

So I take it you race on the track? I've been thinking of doing that myself - there's a velodrome near here and it looks like fun.

Actually, no I do not race on the track anymore. I do have a Marinoni fixed gear, but I mainly road race now on Marinoni's.
I have spent some time on our local velodrome, but prefer being outside and doing longer races now.
A velodrome is definately a lot of fun and has its own set of nuances. If you have the opportunity, give it a try.
Have you tried a Fixie yet? Nothing like it, but give it 500 miles before you make a decision.
Cheers

I know you can readily do it while leaving a carbon footprint, Mr. Ralf, but would be very impressive indeed on a bicycle. Especially a fixed gear (no coasting!!).

...that would make a couple of Sundays, three, maybe!?

my excercise bike is fixed gear and I can do about 25 - 30 miles on it... but then it gets boring... I love mountain biking with all the challenges, bruises and mud it brings with it... street and wood evade me... even though, riding on wood is quite the experience... nothing like it, really!

Welcome to the board Droptarotter.

Ralph,
I enjoy my mountain bike more than my KTM...
