How do use I use Carbtune II
The wife has bought me a Carbtune II (yeap- you read it right). It looks very nice but need some advice how to use it ????
Has any of you folk got any advice or better still, instructions??? Cheers PS I ride a r1200s:confused: |
You need to find the vacuum port opening that the little 'adapters' will fit into. On my 4-cyl Honda, the vacuum ports are on the Head, not the carb, and there's a little phillips head screw that you remove and install the adapters that came with the carbtune. I'm pretty clueless as to where they would be on your bike.
Once you find that spot, though, you're almost all the way there. Hook a line from the carbtune up to each adapter you installed. Hang it up vertical, and start up the bike and let it idle. You need to find the fine adjustment that will adjust the butterflys on each carb. Fiddle around until the vacuum of each carb sucks the fluid up the carbtune tube to an equal amount for each carb. Good times! Sorry, that's a pretty awful description, but I don't know much about your bike. Good luck! |

I've got as far as fitting pipes to vacuum but dont know where to look to adjust ?? |
On the 12, you can look as much as you want to, you CAN NOT adjust it yourself... one of the perils of the newer motor... the old one was easy to do, brass screws and Bowden cables... a turn here and a turn there throughout different RPM's and you were done!
With the Hex-Heads... you make a trip to the dealer and hope for the best! |

If you have the computer software to make the adjustments, you'll be fine...

the R1200S uses an electronically controlled stepper motor for idle adjustment, not an idle air bypass as the R11 does.
You are SOL here. One more reason I don't like the hexhead series. You have to hook up th the DEALER'S computer, get raped by the dealer and run a good chance of some shmuck who's computer illeterate screwing it up worse. This may be PROGRESS, but it's dam sure NOT BETTER. |
Greenbank, I also have one of these Carbtune units, and aside from the obvious problems adjusting the R12S, I found it to be usable but a little inaccurate. If you have the same one I do, there is no liquid. The columns have a metal bar in a calibrated sized cylinder attached to what is probably a calibrated (somewhat) spring. The vacuum pulls the weight of the cylinder and spring.
I found that after attaching and adjusting the R1100S with this, I needed to swap connections and check that the results were the same for each cylinder on EACH side of the carbtune (usually not) and then adjust for differences. Otherwise it's a neat, clean easy to use tool. |
What's better, Carbtune (now Pro) or Twinmax? I'm going to attempt my 24K service (with the aid of the wealth of info on this BB of course).
