Premium 98 was $1.67 per litre the other day so to fill my 17 ltr from empty (a bit under 4 gall) would cost me $28.39:eek: and that's the price I pay, not great but you have to have your hobbies, $30 for a day on the bike is still bloody good value to me. There is talk of fuel hitting $2 per litre - who knows, might trade the Jeep in for a horse...

...for 98 around 1.65 Euro per liter over here...

I feel lucky (for once) > RON 100 (so to speak) > 1.35 Euro/L

...a few weeks ago I was in Luxembourg : 1,244 Euro/Liter...
...a 'bargain'...

You must have not fueled up recently...

Last time I checked, I had to pay 1.65 for 95 already. And since my bike, like it's owner, seems to prefer the good but expensive stuff, I am looking at prices over €1.70 for BP Ultimate 98 (my S's favorite power drink)

Two very important things to remember are;

1. At higher elevations, you can get away with lower Octane

2. At cooler air temps, you can get away with lower Octane.

Another point, in the summer, say in Pheonix, Az. with air temps well above 100 F use the highest Octane you find at a station.

here is a prediction for $7.00/gallon gas in the US. thankfully I am investing in energy futures, although speculative investing seems to be part of the problem. there are a lot of fundamental flaws in economic thinking these days, like when I got my economic stimulus payment and the first thing the wife says is to plunk it into savings. not a bad thought given the economic uncertainty, but certainly not the intent of the payments.

kind of makes "Road Warrior" look like a a bit of prophecy instead of entertainment.

I was paying 1.30 to 1.45 euro/l in Austria last week (but of course would have been happy had it been 10).

92 octane is the best avaliable here. It is currently running 4.00 gal.

It is good to keep in mind that in many European countries there are high taxes attached to petrol, that help pay for their national health care system. So factor in your health care premium and $7.00 looks like a deal.

Well, the end of affair is...erm...rather a fact than a "speculation". I could claim that in general Europe is more "adapted" to such scenarios than US.

Some friends of mine working in motorcycle Industry they tell "interesting" things about future bikes (2 strokes with direct injection, taxation based on CO2 emissions, big cubes/torque, low bhp, paintings that look OK when dirty (shortage of water + taxes on water) etc etc).

BTW, the North American Union and the amero are coming. All you people with stacks of savings, IRA's 401's, etc are going to be very unpleasantly surprised when the monetary system converts from the dollar to the amero as you MIGHT get 10 cents back for every dollar of the 'obsolete' funds.

Jony is dead right, if anything he's understated what's coming. That's why I went to the expense of having a deep well dug some years ago on my little 64-acre ranch away from the cities and bought a good LPG generator. Plus hoarding a good supply of all kinds of ammo, mostly .223, 12-gauge buck and .45 ACP. Plus 2k MREs in crates I got a great deal on which will last virtually forever. When the poop hits the fan, don't worry about the cops, worry about the starving, thirsty urban foragers who will be combing the countryside. Like about 6 mil of them just in the DFW area.
