Hattech R1200S Luggage Rack

I have been waiting for this rack for a while. I have told a couple of you about this so I thought I would post a thread so you can see it in a little more detail than the manufacture shows on their web site. It is a Hattech luggage rack for the R1200s, it goes in the place of the passenger seat. Here is the manufactures URL.

http://www.hattech.de/shop/index.html

Thanks to R1100SPORTour for telling me about this rack.

Hattech has been wonderful to deal with. They are very friendly, and respond to emails quickly. Shipping is slow due to the USPS, customes, and probably a slow boat, so if you order one of these, be patient. UPS costs ~ 150 Euro so it is worth the wait. Mine took 7 weeks to get here. We thought it was lost because the United States Postal Service tracking had not seen it since 15 May.

This is a well built, nicely finished quality item. The pictures on the web site do not do it justice. It fits well, and hopefully will carry all my gear to TOR next month.

Here are some shots of the bottom.

Here you can see that the rubber feet are adjustable so it will fit nice and snug. I did have to adjust these, and all the bolts that do not have lock nuts I removed and applied some locktite.

Here are some shots of it on the bike.

I will come back and update this thread after I have had a chance to load this baby up and go for a ride. I think this will be just the thing as there are not a lot of good tie down places on the back of the R12S.

CK,

That is a tough questions, I will need more information.

You see……….it is not only dependent on how well you can pack a motorcycle, but also what type of hats you want to carry. I imagine at the mine you could probably pack up about 12 hard hats if they were not stackable, maybe 20-25 stackable. You could probably get a dry bag with maybe 100 ball caps in it. More applicable to me, and the reason I bought the rack, I can carry a stack of 35 sombreros, and deliver them to the children at the mission with no problem.

Did this help?

Excellent!

It'd be a handy deck for a camera too.

A cutting board for sushi prep?

It looks like a perfect place to mount a cannibalized microwave oven

I wonder if you could mount a hard top case to this like a Givi or similar? Would the mount be secure enough?

Yes, I am sure you could. The Hattech web site says that is an option in the item description.

Also, the large flat top piece is held to the bottom piece by 4 bolts. I think the top part could be completely removed, and a top case could be secured to the bottom portion via those mounting points, or you could drill holes, make spacers, and use different hardware.

the bottom portion is extremely sturdy, as is the top portion. The weakest part of the rack would be the way the top and bottom plates are secured to each other, and I think that is sturdy enough for carrying gear strapped down like I plan to, but if you wanted to mount a very heavy top case, or a big case with lots of drag, you may want to secure it through both the top and bottom plates.

Nice part, thanks for sharing the info.
Hope I catch up with you at TOR, as I'd like to see and talk to you about how it does on the road.
Nice looking ride too.
