Ducati trackday: finally saw the Desmosedici D16RR on track
Fast group rider, local boy who picked it up this past month and had it out for the Ducati weekend at Calabogie.
Calabogie has a decibel level restricted to around 98 so it ran the emissions sensitive exhaust which drops hp by 20; so it only makes around 180 hp. The decibel beating exhaust note really is restrictive. It made it sound like a I4 running at a low rpm. It was much quieter than the Ducati's or my 2004 ZX10R. It's been a while since I've heard a V4 and never on track; AMA RC45 excluded, but you could hear it a mile away because of the distinct note. A very cool bike. Certainly brought it into perspective of whether or not it's worth it. The owner certainly thought so; and that's all that matters IMO. The biggest accolade was to the slipper clutch, no matter the rpm it works better than any other tried. This was from another rider who's ridden most of the current slipper clutch optioned motorcycles who was on the D16RR yesterday.

RC51,
Must have been awesome to watch and listen to. I got an sms last week from my mate who is service manager at the biggest scooter shop in Brisbane. It was to inform me he had just ridden the Desmosidici. A friend of his boss arrived, got off the bike and handed him the key. He said it is as small as a RGV250, very light and all the controls are light. As for on road, just a slight twist of the throttle and it was lifting the front wheel. He managed a little over 100 mph in the city and said the brakes are awesome. I have reserved a ride when I am there next. ![]()

There was a guy at BeaveRun, Memorial day weekend that had one. Nice young guy, Swiss extraction. bike was gorgeous to look at, almost too much so. Had I brought an $85k bike to the track, I would have puttered along gingerly, not wanting to mess it up. Not this guy, he was riding at a rather respectable pace, turning times in the low to mid 1:00's. the sound that the unrestricted exhaust made was like a divine, guttural wail, one of the most pleasing sounds ever. sigh. I need a better job.
