one of the reasons this gismo caught my eye was because of an experience a few years ago.
a friend went up to popular Angeles Crest on a busy Sunday, went "poof" off the road and down the mountainside.
it took until tuesday to find him and his painfully broken femur. he said he could hear dozens of bikes riding by, a mere 30 feet above him.
its true that it only "tracks" you if you push the tracking button (I think that's a "wifey" feature), but that 911 feature sure could come in handy someday.
and since it doesn't rely on a cell phone signal, it probably works in many places we probably shouldn't be in the first place.

I had a GSM tracker with me on my Spain trip, and my parents thoroughly enjoyed following my progress. My dad rides too but he couldn't come and he would follow my tracker and look up the places I went to. He sorta made the trip back home from behind his computer as I was riding.

But I am single, so I haven't been made paranoid yet by overbearing g/f's or wives.

We used the SPOT and this website

http://jasonjonas.org/spot/tripViewer.do?id=312

to communicate our progress (for our recently completed Indy MotoGP trip) to those interested back home. When we'd punch the SPOT button, it'd add a googlemap "placemark"and send emails to a distribution list including my wife who loved checking the google map and knowing where we were. Fortunately, we didn't test the SPOT's "911" function.
