But for the "Factory" version.The one for the masses will be priced in line with the japanese,they say...
We'll see otherwise the squids can look forward to the ABS-Blade or a R1 that sounds like a sack of nuts...  Even Rossi uses traction control with his "cross-plane" crank.Real racer-squids are faster without TC or ABS...

Its amazing how a bunch of supposedly "grown" men (and women) can piss, moan, and nay-say without a shed of real information about whatever it is they are pissing about. What in the hell is a "BMW faithful" anyway? Someone that doesn't expect, allow, or accept change? Get over your big bad self...the earth you're standing on isn't the same as it was yesterday and tomorrow is a completely different story. Faithful believe in the company and support it...period.
I have owned over 30 motorcyles and ridden over 540,000 miles on our constantly changing planet. Only 5 of them have been BMW brand but since the first one I haven't bothered with the others...I became "faithful". I like what BMW is attempting to do and as a result feel compelled to be supportive...translation=$$$. I take great pride in my ability to ride my BMW motorcycles just a fast and smooth as all the Ducs and motorcycles of Oriental persuasion. I hope that with the 1000RR I'll just be able to do it a little quicker.

A BMW-Faithful,I would say is a guy that rode all kinds of bikes and learned a lot and finally became tired of all the gimmick,PR,lifestyle,toy or other nonsense and finally ended up with a bike that is ready to ride. A boxer is pretty much the best bike for twisty roads the real world has to offer. He doesn't like to faak with a chain and expensive to adjust valves. He likes new technology that brings real benefits like fuel injection,ABS,Para and Telelever.He likes the beauty of simplicity and not changes for changes sake. Every 10 years a really new and upgraded bike with some midlife refreshments/upgrade instead of a new model every other season. He likes a sporty roadbike that still can be ridden alsp 2 up with gear. But BMW-Faithful are opposite to Harley-Faithful not idiots that are not on their knees blindly worshipping everything coming down the factory pipeline as the greatest and holiest branding themselves like sheep... BMW-Faithful are not only critical but also is their worldview not stuck somewhere back between the 30's and 50's of the last century. BMW-Faithful like new technology but only if they mean real improvement of their ideals... I would say products like the R90S,R100RS and R1100S came close to fitting the description as bikes for the true BMW-Faithful... Maybe we can include the R80G/S,R100GS and R1200R into that list of being true BMW's for the B-F... The HP2-S as the Boxerdream come true!But as the name implies at a High Price and unfortunately at the expense of taking a passenger and gear.Sport yes. Sportouring no... But maybe in 2010 the DOHC R1200RS will take care of that problem...

Ron if you can buy a GSXR and R1 for the price of one S1000RR,no matter how trick it might be,the squids will stay with the oriental brands...

I sport-toured for years on my RC51. Camping gear in soft bags over the solo seat and clothes in the tank bag. In contrast I did a few trackdays with my 12GS. I do both with my HP2 with SM rims. All did/do admirable jobs despite being outside of their area of focus. Would anyone consider the RC51 or 12GS their first choice for a sport-touring or track bike respectively?
There's a clear division in the BMW ranks. The faithful who continue to ask where are the hard bags etc. and those willing to accept some level of change. I suspect the same will happen if Ducati ever make an I4. When I couldn't afford multiple motorcycles I did what I could with what I had. I toured, did trackdays etc. and never suffered for that small percentile lost when operating outside the motorcycles comfort zone.

I'm sure someone will correct me if I'm wrong, but doesn't the "street" version of the bike have to have traction control, maybe as an option, if they are going to race it in WSB?

The new bike does not have bags, large enough tank and does not carry a passenger as well as I would like. Get the F**K over it as BMW in todays world is trying to deliver something different to what they have done over the years. They make a bike with large tank, hard bags and good seat for 2 up. Choose the RT or GS. Stop your f**king whining that every new model should be palletable to the BMW FAITHFUL. I think it is great that BMW can offer their customers new bikes that can be more focused and still do what we want them to. I have toured for many years on non touring type bikes in the past and before there were decent panniers systems, we just tied our stuff on. Get a life Chris and I say that with all due respect.

New Motorcyclist 1/09 issue has an article on the S1000RR. Says its 450 lbs. with 180 hp at wheel, but with that COG and 450 lbs, I'll take my less than 419 lbs with Remus system and no rear pegs R1200S for AZ's twisties, anytime.
