That's one big muffler. Somebody on this list is probably already working on an aftermarket version.

Can someone say "Cat" eliminator and full aftermarket exhaust?
Ergos don't look as bad as I thought.

the muffler looks like she-ite, no doubt Akropovic already has the full titanium, open system ready to go. Those are some light looking wheels, almost looks like fat spokes. they left the digital dash off as well. all in all it isn't making me feel desperate to unload the R12 so i have some cash hot in hand when it lands.

This toy looks more Japanese every time I see it.

Function before fashion for me. ![]() Im still thinking about the HP2S, even though it has the LCD dash and too much carbon. Hopefully its impracticalities will keep me away. ![]()

Not really, the major issues for me are the low bars, lack of wind protection, ride comfort, unavailability of a decent size tank bag and rear rack, and spare parts.
The HP2S does things better then the R12S 10% of the time and appears to be worse for 90% of the time. At the moment the new K1300S is looking more attractive as it will be potentially better for my use 90% of the time. The R12S sits between the K13 and HP2S, so I am sitting on the fence, its good fun but is a little tyring for highway cruising.

My comments where actually relating to the HP2S which is also a full on sports bike.
I certainly have no interest in a chain drive Japanese crotch rocket clone, but I do have an interest in the HP2S, even if it is not suited to my needs.

You edited your response, but I don't see how you can call the HP2S even remotely "sport-touring". Any bike that has zero luggage capacity and has the clip-ons as low as the seat is called a sportbike in any book. This thing has similar peg and bar positions as the CBR1000RR, do you call that sport-touring too? Or do feel it is not a real sportbike because it does not have 180+ hp?

I think anyone here getting excited about a bike like that would already be on a
GSXR1ZX10RR... Now there are also beemer-squids if you look at the chicken strips of the rear tire... ![]() But with 180hp,at least it will be "fast"... ![]() |

Well we can all quibble about the various pluses and minuses (sp?) about the new S 1000 RR. I for one stepped up...don't know when it will be in but I am #1 on the list at SJBMW when it does. Framed my deposit receipt last night. I might be blowing it...might not...we'll see.
I have owned various versions of sport bike over the years and quite frankly the fact that BMW is entering the fray excites me and I intend to find out what 170 plus hp and 420 lbs feels like...repeatedly...daily if possible! There will be no chicken strips unless you all are buying...and I prefer teriyaki to bbq when it comes to sauce!

Mad Otter,no reason to dampen your enthusiasm. But I think very few BMW faithful will buy the S1000RR.It's just another 1000 RR.Not proven either,as in reliability. But for sure good for stirring up some excitement and with world class riders as Corser and Xaus on board,no room for excuses either...
If wins come great.Otherwise it will be a very tough road with the big-4 coming out with new bikes every other season as also KTM RC8R,Ducati 1198S and Aprilia V4 joining the party... I myself get rather more excited about the prospect of an 2010 DOHC R1300RS... But if the S1000RR has an functioning traction control on board,in conjunction with the ABS,that also Honda has to offer for 2009,they might have a chance for commercial success and already leap-frogged the competition for now. We'll see... |
