Crappy Day
The purpose of this thread is to cheer you up...
![]() Friday morning... at 7:00 am I discovered my toilet wouldn't flush... 7:15 am I dug the cover off the septic tank to inspect.. eww ![]() Blockage in the pipe... Had to reach down elbow deep into the septic tank, and free the blockage... 7:30 am take shower with clorox, scalding hot water, battery acid, uranium, anything i could find to ensure arm was clean.. ![]() 8:00 arrive at work turn on computer, boots up and dies... 9:00am diagnostics reveal hard drive is toast. So... This thanksgiving you can now have something to be thankful for.. You could be me ![]() ![]() Off to go computer shopping.. This time it will be a Windows unit...Maybe a Dell The laptop that died was a 1.5 year old $1500 MacBook, and mac tells me I am out of warranty, and to take it to a repair shop on my nickle. will probably buy a drive for it and fix it myself for a spare. .

I just got this from Amazon.Com. It's tiny....fits in my tank bag easily...and more powerful than my desktop HP. And cheap. Only downside for an only computer is the keyboard is small, but it has plenty of USB ports to solve that.

Bill, a new HD is less than $100 (for a decent sized one) and you can put it in in 15 minutes... installing the OS will be another 20 or so and you are going to be good to go!
...as for a Windows Computer: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yX8yrOAjfKM

Bill, Signit98 is right on with his advice. A HD can go bad in a Mac or PC. But it is easy to install and format a new drive on a Mac. Here are some links for Mac friendly HD suppliers. http://www.macsales.com/ or http://www.ifixit.com/ If you need any other help or questions, shoot me a PM. regards, Robert

Just got back from Office depot.. and Now I see this....... ![]() Last night I was looking around Best Buy... almost bought a $1000 Dell... got as far as the counter and changed my mind... bought a hard drive that wouldn't fit.. took it back for a refund. This morning went to Office Depot.. Other side of town... Not as busy.... Salesman not trying to sell me anything... I asked a sales guy about A Sony and mentioned my mac had died.. He is a Mac guy... and walked me over handed me a 250 gig drive made by Sea gate... $89.00 I said I really needed windows because my business software is windows... and I was tired of switching back and forth with boot camp.... He handed me VMWARE Fusion said he used it and could run Mac/Linux/windows simutaneously.... So.. I partitioned the new drive and Leopard is installing right now... Thanks for listening to my woes... Encouraging... and giving great advice.. Like I said before this place is like a really cool family!!! ![]()

So when you start running linux you can get a penguin mascot.
Shortly after that you will be choking the mascot like a chicken...it'll feel like putting your hand down that drainfield cleanout ![]() Soon enough after the big CME, we can all focus on $hit with points and condensers and a microprocessor will be an 8-year-old canning peaches...

I lost a lot of stuff... I have to recreate 1 week of business transactions from paper... a bunch of songs I bought from I tunes... I don't think they keep records if so maybe I can redownload them for free?? All my saved email... Which is no big loss.. except for alll the ones from Carlton and Carr that had photography tips... But I can ask the same questions again. They like explaining where the "on" switch is again and again... ![]() I didn't lose too many images.. I burn those to DVD periodically, and have most of my favorites on my webspace. I probably will find things I need but have forgotten about are gone as time passes though. You right though That captain guy Sounds like he runs a "shake down cruise"....

I have one of those Western Digital 500GB my Books. Also have a Lacie. The Western Digital has suddenly lost everything twice. Since I have redundant backups I simply reformatted it and then recopied. The Lacie has never failed.
For less than $100 an external backup, whatever you choose, is as important as a keyboard or monitor IMO.
