LOOKS: I have found that people just walk by it, or even worse turn their heads away in disgust. Also, I have received some jabbing and comments from my sport bike riding buds as well. Heck, I wish I could have provided some photos to capture the facial expressions when they first saw it and realized that I actual got rid of the beautiful 12S (must admit, it did hurt my feelings a bit)
I'm surprised that you have encountered so many who did not like the looks. I owned a 1200GS before buying my 1100S and every time i stopped somewhere with the GS people came up telling me how much they liked the bike. To tell you the truth, I never ran into anyone who said that they didn't like it.

As for power, it definitely had more get up and go than my 1100. I would have bought a 1200S for the engine, but I do a bunch of 2up riding, plus I just loved the looks of the 1100S.

All in all the GS was a really good bike, but it wasn't all that comfortable for my back a lot of time. I ride road and mountain bicycles a lot and am much more comfortable with a bit of forward lean. As a 2up ride the GS was great, and when I reach the point where i can have more than one motorcycle again I may get another; especially if I move somewhere that offers a lot more off road riding potential. For me the GS was all street bike, so all of it's off road abilities were lost on me. I am very pleased with my 1100S and plan on holding on to it for a while...
