Job Market

AZ-Twin sent me this little video..... Thought I would share it.

Job Market

shreddr 11-28-2008 04:48 AM

kind of a sad commentary. if businesses weren't willing to use that type of temporary labor force, this wouldn't even make sense, but the fact that it is so pervasive makes it very relevant. i actually find this a bit offensive on a few levels

signit98 11-28-2008 05:04 AM

....shouldn't have bit, Fish!

wswartzwel 11-28-2008 05:26 AM

??? Scott Adams (Dilbert)has used the ever changing job market for humor for years now... with cartoons that portray employers getting employees to work extremely long work weeks like a slave because it is hard to find a job.... And employees who thumb their noses at the boss whenever good help is hard to find. The job market is always changing, just like the real estate market goes up and down. It is one of those things in life that has changed for generations. Seeing laborers in the back of a truck is quite common in our region..

I wasn't "Fishing or trolling" I guess I didn't think the board members here would be offended. I am sorry Shredd'r, was not my intention to offend you.

signit98 11-28-2008 05:39 AM

...you really worried about his "state of mind", Bill???

Lost cause... I doubt you'll find many more people who will be "offended"...

wswartzwel 11-28-2008 05:42 AM

Actually Ralf... Yes, I like people, and enjoy all kinds of humor... But do not want it to be a painful experience for anyone.

signit98 11-28-2008 05:43 AM

Sigh...

wswartzwel 11-28-2008 05:45 AM

:)

dee jones 11-28-2008 05:46 AM

Every dog has his day!! Thanks for the post Bill.

shreddr 11-28-2008 05:55 AM

Bill you didn't offend me, no worries, the offense is in the state of the US business mentality that rewards this, and Ralf is even more offensive than that.

geothepencil 11-28-2008 07:50 AM

Its not just business that works like this. Who's to say its not the way a basic economy really functions ?

bradzdotcom 11-28-2008 08:24 AM

yep, things are shifting. i currently draw from a group that includes people in india, thailand, finland, england, australia and other exotic places like florida, wisconsin and illinois.

each of them have basically the same skills, yet vastly different costs-per-hour, from a low of $50 to a high of $175.

the people i work with that are on the lower end of the cost-per-hour scale are currently very, very busy...even the $50 guy is raising his rate to $75 to try to ward off some work and get family time.

on the other hand, those high end guys in countries like florida, wisconsin and illinois aren't nearly as busy and they're giving me "breaks" on projects.

in a while, don't know how long, i'm guessing that we'll find some balanced mid-point. i doubt it will ever be a common value (because cost of living varies so much), but right now it seems like the usa folks are doing some needed belt tightening, while in some other parts of the world, they're opening that belt up a notch, because they're starting to get a more "balanced" meal/wage.

recent observation from watching the video: i don't have a gardener, but the next door neighbor has a weekly crew that just bought their second new truck in three months. a few months ago a different gardener bought the house on the corner. around here it seems to be a pretty stable and profitable business. the video is very creative, and it just might have more truth to it than we think!

onekiwi 11-28-2008 09:42 AM

Now that is funny! I think it is called the circle of life opps I meant economy. Supply and demand don't you love it

Kieran R1100S 11-28-2008 10:59 AM

The music says it all. Your lucky those greedy bastards would have you living in a banana republic if it was not for the Billions the world had to tip into the place to float it, and we're all wanting for the ripple effect! Its good to see humor like that though.

jpalamaro 11-29-2008 10:12 AM

Having a name that ends in a vowel, c'mon you folks who are offended. The Chinese, Italians, Irish, Mexicans, Serbs, Polish, the list goes on ad infinitum ad nauseum. Too much political correctness for me. The damn thing is just plain funny!

JonyRR 11-29-2008 11:58 AM

I'd laugh too except I'm in ICU all wired up to funny machines.
Good thing I have a tough constitution or you'd be reading my obituary...but I WLL be back:)

wswartzwel 11-29-2008 12:09 PM

whats up???

Gotta laugh... In ICU and checking the PP board... I would probably be doing the same.

\\What did I miss???

Hope all is OK and you are back on your feet/bike shortly.

R1100SPORTour 11-29-2008 12:58 PM

Bill,thanks for the laugh...:D
Could be not so funny for some and reality if the depression hits next year.
But everything is possible with the morons running the show and who robbed us blind.Arbeit macht frei...;)
Not $700 billion and another $800 billion printed and owed for future loans.
Makes you wonder who bill buy what on credit and who will be able to pay all that shiney new stuff for sale and repay it?!
In the last 90 days our country put on 70% of the debt that was accumulated since 1793...Crazy!
Not even the Weimar Republik was burdened as much under the treaty of Versailles before it collapsed...Interesting times ahead, for sure...

...

"Arbeit macht frei" is a German phrase meaning "work brings freedom" or "work shall set you free/will free you" or "work liberates" and, literally in English, "work makes (one) free".
The slogan is known in the English speaking world for being placed at the entrances to a number of Nazi concentration camps."

Wink?

AZ-Twin 11-29-2008 02:30 PM

Well that should get things going.:)

GotRoad? 11-29-2008 04:12 PM

Thank goodness that my job function is so obscure & so irrelevant that I'm safe until I decide to call it quits.

R1100SPORTour 11-29-2008 06:13 PM

Andrew I meant maybe the people who benefitted so much from other people's hard work, and made millions from their labor without producing anything themselves, have to try to make a living and survive with old fashioned work, for a change!
Arbeit macht frei...:D
Socialism for millionaires and capitalism for the workers who have to pay to subsidize the millionaires profits, even if their aren't any.
The sad thing, this system privatices the profits and let the taxpayers pay for the losses.A win/win situation for the "capitalists" on top...
"We" can't afford health care and social security but we can "afford" to bail out the super rich banking elite...even if it cost's more than "free healthcare" and college tuition and social security benefits, for the taxpayers, who pay for it anyways...How effed up is that?

I know exactly what you meant.

You are obviously an astute student who has studied just enough to help bolster whatever twisted beliefs plague you. You also choose your words very carefully. I know what you meant. Get help.

R1100SPORTour 11-30-2008 07:29 AM

What twisted beliefs plague me and where can I get help?
It's very easy to see what is going on.
The money elite with their unbelieveable greed and profits left nothing but bones.
Now they take the taxpayers monies to bail them out and they can start their game again.Privatized profits, socialized losses.A win/win situation for the cabbal that produces NOTHING.
No money for social security that is "broke",no money for universal healthcare,no money for schools and colleges that would benefit the tax paying citizens.
But more than enough money for Wall-Street sharks and phoney wars/occupations that benefit a few private contractors at the rate of 10 billion a month...
We need help,for sure!

bradzdotcom 11-30-2008 07:49 AM

Andrew~
you might consider joining a good many of us by using the ignore button so you can filter out the posts penned by certain individuals (or their often changing names).

to use "call blocking" or "Ignore", goto User OP/Control Panel/edit ignore list/add member to your list.
fill in the blank, hit Okay, things get instantly better.

man, wouldn't it be cool if you had a guy like Mort on your ride and you could simply punch in mort and hit "ignore"....and poof he'd be gone from the group?

jony, shred, ben, motoyoyo, curve.....would you guys please each start working on that concept for us? i think i could round up a group buy....

JonyRR 11-30-2008 08:59 AM

Roger that, Brad.
Now that I'm home with a new stint in an artery, my doctor's orders are to not get spun up...modern medicine is amazing for hard-parts work. Major MI on thursday night, home on Sunday (I hacked the hospital computer in my room so I could get out and see what was what..hehehe)
It'll take a lot of work, but I can do it. As has just been illustrated to me again, life is too short.
I should be able to get to the shop middle of this week to install my Motoyoyo clamps.
Live every day as 'twere your last for someday it surely will....

bradzdotcom 11-30-2008 09:15 AM

dang it jony, keep the revs down!
top end rebuilds require proper break-in.
follow the instruction manual this time!

wswartzwel 11-30-2008 09:17 AM

Heart Attack???

JonyRR 11-30-2008 09:29 AM

yep.
Lifestyle change time.
Less stress
No More Margaritas

What a rush it was...I was on the gurney while they were getting ready to run the catheter up my femoral artery for the stint. I was conscious..suddenly had to vomit..as I was spewing, I heard the EKG go 'beeeeeeep' and 'paddle...200 joules stat'...or somesuch. i started to see the ceiling swirl around, just like in the movies and then...zap. Every nerve ending in my body was on fire and I must have jumped a foot vertically. Sweetest sound in the universe was the
'beep, beep, beep'.
there goes another life. I think I'm running on fumes now. Obviously not my time yet. I'm very thankful for every second.

R1100SPORTour 11-30-2008 09:39 AM

wswartzwel 11-30-2008 09:45 AM

but I'm havin' one for ya now, tip one if you can.

John Lyon 11-30-2008 04:21 PM

Glad you're still with us, JonyRR. I'm interested about the swirling ceiling all the while you could hear what was going on. No tunnel with a bright light?

wswartzwel 11-30-2008 04:23 PM
