HP2 Sport LED Indicators (BMW 63137708048)

I saw that on the parts fiche BMW offers LED indicators.

I took the part number 63137708048 and plugged it into Chicago BMW Motorcycles site and got four of them for $45.20 each. More expensive than some LED taillights but cheaper than others. I decided to get four of them to see what they would be like.

They are quite nicely built. They are very bright and the connectors fit perfectly.

the front

Here is a comparison between the original incandescent indicators and the LED indicators on the front.

Here are some pictures of the front from the perspective of a person standing on the side of the motorcycle.

Overall I really like them. I think the smaller, sleeker profile very much fits the aesthetics of the HP2 Sport. They are also definitely brighter than the stock incandescent indicators.

As an added benefit for those that have to use indicators frequently due to an urban riding environment, it is very easy to tell which side your indicators are blinking while riding. With the stock indicators, it was a little more difficult to tell, but the front LED indicators are small enough and bright enough that it's obvious with a quick glance down.

The rear looks perfect. I don't think I could imagine doing any better. The front looks good, the only thing I might go to one day would be a lower profile indicator that doesn't stick out at all, but even then, I don't think so. I like these a lot and the plugs make it a two minute job to swap them in.

Now the only issue I have is what to do with all of these:

I shopped around and was not able to get the LED blinkers at any place for a better price than what Chicago BMW Motorcycles offers. Some people have said Chicago BMW Motorcycles ships slow and may have questionable customer service, I did not experience this. I ordered online Nov 25, was acknowledged via email on Nov 26, and received them on December 8.

For $26.5k, you would think the HP2 Sport would have just come with the cool LED blinkers to begin with. Well, at least they offer the option to buy them. They do look great and offer superior functionality. I highly recommend them.

Have you seen anything after market that you would say looks better? I'm definitely interested to see what else is out there. I really think these look great and are worth the money though I am sure that many would say otherwise due to the nearly $200 price tag.

When I was considering putting LED blinkers on my F800ST, the aftermarket ones on the f800depot where $100 a pair. That's more than the $45.20 each that I spent on these OEM ones which look better and have zero integration issues due to OEM plugs.

the funniest part of it all

So let's say you break an indicator off and lose it. Believe it or not, it's cheaper to replace it with the LED indicator than it is to get all the parts together to replace an incandescent one!

01- 63137667771 / 02 - 63137667772 housing $18.85
03 - 63137684950 reflector $23.08
04 - 63137684528 lamp lens $12.15
05 - 63217169203 bulb $2.56
06 - 63137654275 fillister head screw $0.56
07 - 63137676316 holder $11.46
13 - 61127699594 cable $13.22

total: $81.88

I wonder if those would work on the rear of the 1100?

Sergio, children should not play with sharp objects. Simon, they look pretty nice. Ahhh, the first functional bling for the HP2S.

They do resemble Christmas lights.

Just when I thought I was done farkling. Thank you for my new LEDs that will be on order tomorrow. They look great...and yeah, I'm in an urban environment. Good thing I never got used to turn signal self-canceling on my other bikes.

I assume the flash rate is the same with these since it's all done by the bus?

As far as I can tell, the flash rate is the same. At one point I had one LED and one incandescent mounted on the front. When I hit the hazards, both blinked at the same time with the same frequency.

Hmm... what gave it away? I would have thought that most people would have compared the two side by side to check for a frequency, duty cycle or phase delta between the two kinds of indicators.

Blink Delta?

LED vs standard bulb blink delta. This has to be a new low in picayune cycle 'stiuff'. It even beats the 'what oil you using or when didja switch to synthetic?'.

Thanks for the write-up and the pix. I'll order them tomorrow. Nice commentary as well.

Not HP2 but I did add LED rears to my R11S. Here is a video comparing the LED vs incandescent. Main thing to notice is the latency of the bulb while the LED are much more "snappy". I like mine, wish I could get some for the front but there are none available.
