Can the R1200S run without the gauge cluster?

This may be a long shot, but does anyone know if the R1200S needs it's gauge cluster/clocks to run properly? Reason I'm asking is that I'm considering a crashed R1200S that doesn't have the gauge cluster which to build as a track bike and rather than buying a relatively expensive replacement I would probably use a lower cost generic off-road type display for the oil temp, RPMs etc.
Thanks
Mark

no problem... you'll just have to rig a tach the old style... by hooking it directly to the alternator... if those types are still available.

Thanks for the reply; So there is no issues with the FI system needing communications with the gauge cluster? I'm not familiar with the CAN-BUS and if the guage cluster needs to be in place or not for the bikes ignition/FI system to operate properly.
Thanks, Mark

I thought that there was some discussion recently about how the R1200S can't run without the gauge cluster, and how that was a sticking point to having an "all glass cockpit" dash made for it, a la HP2S?

Or was that for retro-fitting a new cluster onto the HP2S?

any of the R's runs without the darn cluster...

The way I understand it, you must have either the ZFE or the iCluster on the bike in order to start it. Haven't confirmed it, though.
