BST A-Arm

I have sent BST a note asking if it would be possible for them to make some of the CF A-arms in the shorter version for us R12 owners looking for that edgy handling. I asked how many would they need commitments for, and a ballpark price if they intend to comply. Who wants one? I am guessing $1000

Dude!

1st. We're in a De-Re-pression
2nd. It's tax season
3rd. Argh!

I'm curious to see what the price would be. I know the 2S could use a shorter wheelbase!

Count me in if your price guess is close . Based on past experience with BST I doubt if they will be interested , but this economy seems to make everyone interested in any new business .

Maybe for me, also @ $1K. Let us know what they say, shreddr!

Man, you have it bad. Such complete sickness. I guess it's cheaper than a shrink though (unless you manage to destroy the thing, at which point you will most likely be inconsolable)

Suggest you use the R1200RT A-arm dimensions to maximize the benefit.

hello thomas,

i just got your e-mail forwarded to me.
the two parts were done while i was working at gerg in germany.
they should still have the tools there but the parts are obsolete already as they were done about 7 years ago.

the weights were about 2.4kg for the rear and about 1.9kg for the front part.

if you want to i can put you in touch with gerg, as i don't have any information about prizes and if they are even selling the parts. (i know that sounds strange bu it was always handled as development project not as something that was supposed to be sold...) i could probably try if i would get the tools to south africa to build a set of parts with the guys there. in germany i would not think that it is possible to get these parts for less than 4000euros each (but that's just guessing)

kind regards,

andrea

Holly Cow!!!

PS: I'd rather invest on a MoTec instead of blowing 8K for these...

PS: Idea n2 what about 1K for complete CF side panels? (from Julius - obviously) At least with these one could manage that flimsy OEM "feeling"...

At $3500 for a set of wheels, (under $3000, if you got connections) that price for the a-arm doesnt make sense. I have sent a note to the owner (BST not Gerg) I will post his response here.

I got this response from BST regarding the A-Arm, although he has confused the a-arm with the swingarm, the reasoning is most probably the same, we would need 100 preorders. I wonder what bike is getting the carbon swingarm, maybe the 1098?

Hi Jeff

Only one swing-arm was made to be tested by BMW. As I understand it , the swing-arm worked fine but BMW did not turn it into a production part.

Swing-arms are very expensive to develop, we are busy with one know for another make of bike and would not consider it unless we were fairly positive that we could sell 100 over 2 seasons. We have almost that on pre-order for the current swing-arm we are busy with.

Kind Regards

Gary Turner

resurrection, i was pretty sure I had brought this up before, I guess I should have defended their honor and they would have listened. ken's got the ball now.

how do I recover the old pics as well, where the X is was a pic of a CF a-arm, actually if you look at that link it goes to a BST link, that was a part attributed to Andrea when they brought her onboard.

My stock Telelever is on its way to SA - Gary Tuner is already back there.
When the arm arrives, he's starting the design process.

Here's the original R11 series pictures of the A-arm and a proposed swingarm, courtesy of EZRIDER - however the orginal pricing was a little stout:
