Monday, June 15th: Ride to Work Day
the 18th annual Ride to Work Day is Monday, June 15.
from the ama: "Ride to Work Day has become an international event in recent years, with participation in cities around the world and support from the Federation International de Motocyclisme. In the United States, it has been recognized on the floor of the House of Representatives by both Rep. Gabrielle Giffords (D-Ariz.) and Rep. Michael Burgess (R-Texas), both consistent supporters of motorcyclist's rights. "According to the United States Census Bureau and the Department of Transportation, more than 80 million cars and light trucks are used for daily commuting on American roads, and about 200,000 motorcycles and scooters are a regular part of this mix. On Ride To Work Day, the practical side of riding becomes more visible as a larger number of America's motorcycles and scooters are ridden to work. "Event organizers say the number of motorcyclists on the road likely will double on this year's Ride to Work Day." last year the local tv folks did a piece on it, acting amazed and awed by the lack of problems during rush hour (maybe it was just a slow news day) i work from home, so i guess i'll roll the bike out to the end of the driveway, then back in. that's about as far as i'd like to venture on my current rear tire anyway!

Wow. My high mileage a couple of years ago was 36,000 and part of that was the Georgia Courthouse Challenge (visit all 159 of 'em). That was my work so I must have done something right.

Figures. Summer vaca for me (Middle School teacher), so no work on Monday. BUT WAIT! I'm teaching a MSF class down near Denver, so i could ride to that (the usual method). BUT WAIT! i just swung a deal to pick up a set of Caribou Cases (pelican bags) for my new-to-me F800GS Monday after i leave work, and need the car to pick them up on the way home. Damn and double damn.
Guess i'll just have to do some extra riding all those other days i normally ride to work.

Uh, I don't work anymore...not at least in a job that pays a wage. The honey dew list isn't particularly lucrative, though the fringe benefits after 40 years of marriage are pretty well established.
![]() So, can I ride that day anyway??? Have to admit I'm always extra cautious on RTW day. In '97, had a Subaru total my Ducati 900 SP, the only reason I rode that day was? You guessed it. RTW Day. ![]() Be careful out there, and give me a wave Puget Sounders when you see the Grey/Mandarin 11S!!! Cheers! BJ |
