Le Mans Classic, story and Pics.

I'm hoping its ok to post this here. This event was so amazing for me. I think you will enjoy.
In mid july over 100K vintage car lovin fans , collectors, and racers gathered at Le mans,France to celebrate the history and cars of the 24hours of Le Mans sports car race. The race cars are arranged into six grids. ranging from 1923/1939 Bentleys, Talbots, Rileys, Bugattis, Delahays, Lagondas, etc. In the first grid.
Through to Grid #6 1972/1979
including Porsche 911 RS, Bmw 3.o CSL, Porsche 935 Moby Dick, 908, 935 K3, 936,
Lolas, Chevrons, Ferraris 512 BB LM,BMW M1s.


Also great to see was the rematch of ford gt 40s vrs. Ferrari 512 S vrs, Porsche 917, 908, 910s, Lola T70 MK 111, Chevron B 8, b 16s, of the 1960s
Wow just too many others to mention. A total of well over 400 cars spanning all of the races thru these years were there to be seen and heard ripping around the turns and down outragious long straights at Le Mans.

All told with practice, Quali, and 24 hrs nonstop racing, in 45 min. heats there were plenty chances to see and fully experiance all of these cars in action on track. also there was total access to the paddok area, even the grid staging area. You could walk around meet the owners , drivers, and mechinacs up close and personal. Amazing access, some times the spectators seemed almost too close and in the way. but it stayed all smiles. lots of patiants on the part of the race team at times.

The racing is only part of the event. tens of thousands vintage cars of all sorts drive into the area to come to become part of the largest classic car gathering in the world, every two years. There are club display fields you cant believe. There were clubs for cars I had never even heard of with 6- 10 or more on display. Hodgekiss anyone?

I was camping in an area called Maison Blanche, about 100 yrds from the track. along with a few thousand other enthusists , and found the love of cool cars trancends language diffilculties, tho many in my area came from G B. so spoke some english.HA
