Curious & hopeful you can recommend a good mechanic on Kauai to work on a european car. I am car shopping on the mainland, but I am apprehensive to purchase a european car when I hear about people having to ship to Oahu just for minor problems (even though lots of people seem to drive them). Would love to hear any suggestions. Thanks.
I was never able to get all of the rust out of the inside of the tank. So I replaced with a new tank.
If I had access to a radiator shop to put it in a soak tank to get all of the inside cleaned, I would have done that and coat the inside with the Por 15. Then replace the screen in the bottom of the tank, then install with extra inline fuel filter. If you are dealing with surface rust in an otherwise solid tank maybe you can save it. It took me almost 5 mos.to find a new one that was available. Good luck to you. I did talk with a tech rep at POR and he had some doubts about use with the swirl pot in place. Others here said they had success in cleaning and coating theirs. The new tank that I got was unfinished on the outside.
All the best, Richard
Hi - I am a new member to the board and was reading the thread about your gas tank from last year. I was wondering what you ended up doing. I have a 75 911s that also has a swirl pot and also needs to be derusted. I haven't been able to find any definitive information about what is safe with the plastic swirl pot. Did you end up trying the POR15?
