Aussie S1000RR Pricing released
$21,900 Including Quickshift
Expected in "The first part" 2010 BMW Motorrad Motorsport Colours $765. Multi-mode Race ABS with Dynamic Traction Control (DTC) - $2500 Anti-Theft Alarm System - $505. FYI For comparison: R1: $19,999 GSXR1000: $18,990 ZX10R: $19,499 CBR1000RR: $19,490 (ABS +$1000) $2 grand better than an R1? Ant |
Ant, will the YAkahosu crowd flock to the upgraded S1kRR at that price differential?
|
Bubba, I'm trying to figure that one out too!
I just don't know. As you can see, the others are all within $1000 of each other. Will they shell out ANOTHER $2k. No doubt some will, but in what QTY. I'm sure many of them will still buy a tried and proven R1 and have that money spare for insurance and registration etc. Question for the group though... do you think this is because they COULDN'T get the pricing the same, or is it marketing where they wanted to have a perceived "Premium" product. It's got the rondel after all ;) Ant |
It's beyond me Ant. I'm not the target they're shooting at.;)

One of the reasons to go with the BMW over the Japanese options is the ABS + Traction control, but the added cost pushes the BMW price to around 30% more than the competition.
You can get significant discounts of list pricing on the opposition so unless BMW are going to discount as well the price difference is going to be even greater. The S1000RR had better be bloody good to attract sales away from the opposition, even if it is I will not buy one. |

As you can see the ABS on the Honda is $1k, so it's $1500 for TC! Quote:
But I, and none of us on this board (being existing BMW owners), are not the key demographic they want. And NO, I don't think their key demographic will pay $2k extra then an additional $2500!! Ant |
Ho Hum...time will tell...so far this forum is like reading a newspaper..."it might, maybe, could" but no reality. Speculation is like expectoration without the cup to collect the evidence.
|
On price Yamaha, Honda, Suzuki, and Kawasaki will all drop there price from original pricing, some as much as $3,500 and that's where you pick up a bargain.
BMW wont do this, so then you have a gap of some $5,000 or more! Time will tell, but not here! Our market is to small to tell much. It will only be prevalent if you start to see them popping up at local haunts. With that said, I have had my R1200S for 12 months and have not seen or even passed another! and I ride most Sundays. |
Good questions Ant and I wouldn't have a clue.
I just looked up Honda CBR1000RR Fireblades and can get me an 08 with 1400kms for 16000 ono in the new shape. BMW doesn't have a used bike market which is good and bad for them. To get a bike that had a point of difference other than the Roundel, IE, DTC - I would have to end up throwing $25000 at one Compared to the former for 9k less before haggling - how many squiddly diddlies will shell that much out. Time will tell - but it is pricey and it's a very agressive market right now - actually it has always been. |
I reckon they will sell like hot cakes. Positioned well between the Jap superbikes and anything European.
Time will tell but if the first road tests are favourable and a degree of acceptance is reached in the sports bike market they will be off and running. In line 4 not my cup of tea but it is certainly an exciting bike. Me, I'll wait for the next generation boxer with around 130-150 HP. Cheers, Haggis |
Found this over at the BMW Sport Riders Forum.

I never quite saw the reason why BMW had ABS as the only option on the HPS. With an on/off switch it made no sense to have this 1k dollar add-on for so very few bikes in a production run. Now BM is doing it again with the most significant feature on the bike. It's the only way to harness the massive hp and torque available on the S-series bike. That's just my thought on the $2,500.00 add-on which I consider necessary due to the hp/torque.

Cheers, Haggis I'm with you. It's not my cup of tea, it's just another I4. Personally I hope they sell a ***** load and put some of the profit into developing a 150hp boxer. |
Kind of weird, because in Germany it's right in them middle of all the other 1000cc bikes.

Another little tidbit

I think they are targeting the 1198 buyers more than the R1 / Gixxer / CBR / Ninja buyers. That's not what they're saying, though.
I took aspin around the cloverleafs today on my CBR600. After two years, 22K miles, and 25 track days, the acceleration on that thing is still "Holy *****" amazing. I can't even fathom a liter bike. |
I have some friends that used to ride BMW's but went to GSXR1000RR's, R1's, etc. and they say they will be buying the S1000RR. Two that I know of have said they have a deposit down already.
Believe it or not, both of them said they ordered the ABS/DTC option. |
