Torque settings-info please

I am in the process of purchasing a maintenance manual for the R12S but need to find out the torque settings for:
1. front disc rotor fasteners
2. front axel pinch bolt
3. rear wheel fasteners.
Thanking you in anticipation.
Cheers

See if you can sort out the wheat from the chaff.

Best to get a confirm on this though as I am the least technical person I know

Rotors - 24nm with Loctite 243
front axle - 30nm
rear studs - all dialed to 50nm then all dialed to 105nm

Below is something else I found which may help in future. Again - we need a more technical al ee inclined person to give you the nod

A few torque values:
fixed bearing retainer bolts (on right side of driveshaft housing) 150 Nm(105?)
idler bearing retainer bolts (on left side of driveshaft housing) 7 Nm
locknut on idler bearing retainer bolts 105 Nm
transmission to engine case bolts 22 Nm
brake caliper bolts 40 Nm
shock absorber bolts (RS 8.8 screw) 43 Nm
(RS 10.9 screw, GS,R,RT) 50 Nm
strut to rear drive 43 Nm
long bolt connecting struts to frame 47 Nm
rear wheel lug nuts initial: 50Nm/final: 105Nm
rear frame to transmission 47 Nm

I thought the rear wheel for an R1200S was 60 Nm. Are these R1100 values ?

Could you please convert all those to foot pounds for us 'mericans. Most of us cant speak foreign languages like newton meters.

Newtons are a snack food and meters are what the power company reads once a month to send us a bill.

I know, just busting his Knuts!

I am one 'merican that wishes we would scrap our system and go with the SI standards. All my micrometers and my main set of calipers are metric, and I am probably one of the few people that own a metric tape measure.

We are in exclusive company, as one of only 3 countries that do not use SI, the others being Burma and Liberia.

There's your problem. You need big meters if you are going to measure power. I met Thomas Edison the other night and he set me straight about a lot of things electrical and audio as well.

Chewie,
Thanx for the info, just what I needed. There is a green or red one with your name on it next time your passing this way. I am still trying to find a hard copy manual specific to the R12 but all there seems to be available includes all the hexhead motors. I don't really like the idea of purchasing the BMW CD ROM Manual and having the laptop getting my grubby paw prints on it while trying to work on the bike at the same time.

Turboflyer,
No, the disc rotors are fine. Story goes: took bike in to (nameless) motorcycle shop to have new Michelin Pilots fitted and they managed to score/chip the paint of off both of the edges of the rims while removing the tyres!!! Needless to say they are now coughing up for a new paint job on both rims. I was not going to let them (mis)handle any more of my bike than necessary so I have removed all the parts from the rims and will replace them when they are repaired. The shop however has been very apologetic and helpful in repairing the damage.

rear wheel lug nuts initial: 50Nm/final: 105Nm maybe the 50 initial is to get the bolts seated and snug then you jump on the torque from there, that makes sense.

If you have a lap-top like me, just chuck a bit of glad wrap or greaseproof paper over the keyboard and carry on

I'll have a green thanks - unless I've parked it for the night, then red

Be nice if someone could post a clarifying um, post.

Ralf - you must have had the wheels off yours a few times, Cageyar, Rob, someone fer chrissakes give us the damn exacto nm values. The manual I was looking at includes R1200S but then most of the info has the R1100S in the heading so I am not supremely confident here. Can someone pull there finger out please?

Rob Perhaps you can post the rear wheel torque too. My keyboard doesn't seem to work.

I got one right - I dont see the front or rear studs values there though.

Sorry Rob - I can't find where I saved my DVD thingo that you gave me - I thought it was on the computer somewhere but I tried searching - the Mrs might have saved it onto a disc. I will find it when I'm looking for something else.

I am digging through the DVD finding useful stuff that is torque related and posting it in this thread. I see these can be printed. I will try to print out some of this stuff and scan it in and try to get a good PDF with some useful stuff in it.

OK, I looked at the owners manual for an R1200S for the rear wheel torque and it is 60Nm.

I wouldn't get excited about this except I have a friend who relied on the pros and was seriously injured when his rear wheel fell off of his RT, and not at high speed either.
