Schuberth Teams Up With Cardo
From Dealer News
Schuberth Teams Up With Cardo Schuberth, the German producer of high-end head protection, and Cardo Systems Inc., the Pittsburgh-based helmet communication systems provider, announced an agreement under which Cardo will design and manufacture a unique communication and entertainment system for the Schuberth C3, C2 and Concept motorcycle flip-up helmets. The new and patented system will be launched later this year. "Our collaboration with Cardo is meant to equip the world's finest motorcycle helmets with the best available communication and entertainment system," says Marcel Lejeune, CEO of Schuberth. "The new system represents the synthesis between our unrelenting pursuit of safety, intuitive ergonomics and cutting-edge technology. This product will meet an important customer demand for a smart and mature all-round solution to complement our premium helmets." Besides connectivity with mobile phones, bike-to-bike intercom between up to three riders and wireless receipt of stereo music from compatible MP3 players, no further technical information about the system was provided. Schuberth's executives described their new system as a radically new approach in retrofitting communication systems to motorcycle helmets, blurring the line between built-in headsets and aftermarket solutions. |

i hope it's a "radically new approach", because it seems like all the helmet/comm folks who offers communication PLUS audio inside a helmet always sucks at the quality of the audio.
communication by phone, bike to bike, rider to passenger....not so bad. mp3....not good enough. i noticed a trend in communication-equipped helmets where they're back-pedaling about the mp3 capabilities, saying music can be listened to, but not at "standard" quality levels.

No try, do or not do

there is no way anything loud enough to drown out the wind and exhaust noise wouldn't damage your hearing. this may be great for the "sewing machine" riders behind their giant windscreens, but I ride with ear plugs, and if I don't get em in far enough I feel like i am being beat about the head. the only thing i could imagine would be ear buds, but you don't need a trick helmet for that

Swartztie, I consider it a blessing that I can't hear you sing in your helmet.

Do not take too seriously

Perhaps you should check if your screen is not too high (hitting your helmet instead of hitting your chest), or try a different helmet. A quiet helmet for one, can be noisy as hell for another due to different head shapes.

Now, If they were really innovative, they would also include an option for a battery powered radar detector integral within the helmet shell and include a full function heads up display integrated into the face shield. Actually, they should enable the heads up display for all functions. "Input: MP3 selected", "Incoming call from your dentist" "Volume up". Also a mini, bluetooth, thumb operated BMW iDrive controller on the handle bars to scroll through the functions menu. And of course, there would be nano tube solar photovoltaic cells on the helmet's surface to power and recharge the lithium-air batteries. That would be cool.
As a stop gap until the ultimate solution is available, I think I'll just crazy glue an Escort Solo to the top of my helmet.

Great. Does that mean Schuberth is going to get a North American distributor so we can buy helmets and spare parts? Once they solve that problem, I'll consider other things they may offer.
