restoring triple clamp to original finish.

My triple clamp has some light scratches from the key ring rubbing it for 20k miles. What's the technique for restoring the brushed aluminum to its original finish?

I'd be interested in knowing this as well. It appears to have some sort of clear coat, although I'm not really familiar about the finishing process of various metals. It's probably going to end up being more trouble than it's worth in the end unfortunately.

I think it has a anodized coating. You could paint it or get one of these.

Are these the clamps that Ben/Ole/BOY- Whatever... Is pontificating about:

******'s motorcycle writings

Did you see this?

There was a guy selling stronger-looking triple-clamps for the R1100S. I was so annoyed at the baloney and ballyhoo (not to mention major peculiarities related to money) that I wrote this. I'm still steaming too much about the FRK and its merchants to write coherently; but that's next.

yea, we can normally ride all year, but stay off the roads for most of the summer.
too many squids trying to be organ donors out there in summertime.
the good season around here just got started.

ben's site is a giggle. i've never seen so many footnotes, many of which seem to be longer than the referring text itself.

i thought the rambler was a car made by dodge. not so sure anymore.

Or me, but that would be a lot. It's funny, someone slagged him this week and he wrote me demanding that it be edited, and the 'perp' BANNED.
But he takes potshots at all kinds of people and products on his boyblog, and posts the link to them here on every post.

Like the weakling on the playground who instigates a lot of shoving matches, but runs for the teacher when he gets shoved back. Very weak. He continues to put a lot of bad info out, but I can't be bothered to police it anymore. I'm on hold with TimeWarner's 'awesome' customer service right now, and so have nothing better to do.

BMW Roundel Not What it use to Be

Greetings,

My the board has changed.

I miss the good times and the experts that have migrated elsewhere.

Not that they can't be with us, they are just not here...

Nice work Roger and thanks for keeping it real.

Best to all for a Great Friday nite ride!

steel wool

Tried some 0 steel wool on it last night and it cleaned up nicely. I think the key is to use very fine wool like 0 or finer, depending on how deep the scratches are.

see if you can wake up sand city flyer (jerry from monterey).
he took his stock triple clamps and created an awesome finish...all by hand.
good woodworking shops carry steel wool in even finer increments (0000 and beyond).
