Is this true, 97 black and 432 R1200S in the US?

Over at the MOA forum, I saw this post and responded: R1200S 6000 mile check - BMW MOA

There are only only 97 black and 432 R1200S's in the US, most of them in the silver/red scheme? Wow. It gives new meaning to why it is gone.

Second-hand word-of-mouth unconfirmed information about sales from a service manager at a dealership. Why am I skeptical?

Me too (skeptical) but how do we verify it or blow it out of the water?

I was speaking a while back with the owner of the Evoluzione Cyclesports who makes plate relocation brackets and other trick items for Euro sport bikes, Ken Zeller, and he quoted a similar low 400's number.
I don't know if vendors would have any access to BMW production data but maybe through his trade associations? Anyway, his production estimate was almost identical.
When I was shopping for mine, I never saw more than one on the floor at any dealer and I went to quite a few in NY, NJ, PA, CT, and NH.

Thank for that cageyar. I suspect its true, its just weird to see it as a final tally. I had a 2007 F800S before the 1200S, and I know during a recall in mid-08, there were 1300 some-odd ST's and 400 some-odd S's, there too. Two to four months after that, the F800S was history in the US, too. They continued in EU and elsewhere, but I think 09 is their last hurrah. The 10 F800ST and GS is out and there seems to be no S anymore.

Some guy was emailing me trying to buy mine. He got my email from the R1200S micapeak site.

2X I politely tried to tell "it's not for sale." He says, "name your price". I say at least 11K and at or under 11, forget it, and he offers me 11K as if I offered it for that. I guess I am just not ready to sell yet, I like it too much.

I've gotten several emails from the forum wanting to buy mine.
At $21,600 into it so far, I'm so upside down the only solution is to keep going.
At least shreddr more upside down than me!

As long as you're talkin' about money and not the bike, CAG, it's OK.

Who ever gets what they put into one of these anyhow.

i got about the same in mine, i picked up the base bike used 2 years ago for $13k and it came with some of the bling already installed. i don't count consumables, and my labor was free. I also don't count the cost of anything I bought and then resold at whatever price.

the cool thing about putting money in these bikes is that they are keeper bikes and rare, so if you ever do decide to sell, the parts go quick, and the bikes retain a good part of their value. also because they are not seriously revamped every year they are easy to keep without feeling left behind, unlike the big 4 who make such big changes every model year, that a year old bike is a piece of crap compared to the new stuff.

i guess its like the HD mentality, you buy one and add chrome over the years, only in this case its CF

HURRY! We can beat them!!
"Anyone else with a black R1200S, lets check in for a sub-forum."

Seriously, if there are 432 total r1200s bikes, lets break this down before it goes to someones head...

97 black
105 yellow
96 silver
105 red/silver with Ohlins
29 red/silver without Ohlins
432 total

I win! Mine is the rarest of them all!

According to Australian Motorcycle News BMW Australia have imported 50( maybe 60) HP2Sports in two batches.

Thinking of the R1200S there were two in The NT ( mine and another ) + 1 still in the dealer after 3 years.

Chewie has a black one , Snoop ( Hi mate) has a black one Muzza Has a yellow one .

Talking to the dealer in Perth the other day and he could have sold more , people were going across east to try and find them .

My bike came from Tassie , the dealer there had two more . Southbank in vic had a silver and red one for a while .

I Think it is not beyond the realms of possibilty that there are more HP2Sports in this country than there are R1200S'

The Perth dealer was hoping I would move there as he wanted to give me a very very good trade against an S1000RR as he could shift an R1200S very easily indeed.

Edited to add there are currently 11 for sale on bike point including this curiosity

I find it very difficult to believe 50 plus HP2’s have been sold here, that sounds like wishful thinking on BMW’s part. There are at least two HP2S for sale in OZ (both new), one (of the original batch) has been for sale for over 6 months with no takers, that indicates the level of interest.

The major Sydney Ducati/BMW dealer has sold over 30 Desmosedici Ducatis at 3 times the price of the HP2S yet only a couple HP2S, basically know one is interested in the HP2S, they are a sales flop.

The 1198S /1098S Ducati’s sell/sold for the same price as the HP2S new, yet they sell/sold in volume by comparison (not surprising considering the performance the Ducati’s offer, they also hold their value remarkably well as they are in demand used.
