Question 2010 MotoGP World Champion prediction

Per Bob's request:
Fresh from the Malaysia results, with no indication from off-season testing, who do you say will emerge as the breakout rider and become the 2010 MotoGP World Champion?

If his riding after the "break" he took is any indication, the rest of the field (including Spies) will have a hard time!

Stoner seems to understand now - that it has become painfully clear to him - what it really takes to become and STAY a champion... balanced nutrition, workout and a scheduled daily rhythm will be big parts of his life from here on out and all I can say is

WATCH OUT!

I hear you Ralf; however, I think Lorenzo has learned not to be goaded into self induced errors by Rossi. He is hungry.

EZ, I don't think Spies will run the table at this level.

Thumbs up

I think Stoner is his worst enemy, He doesn't handle loosing very well !
And on that note I don't think he will be the next ROSSI!, Their is rumor
that Rossi may move to Ducati in 2011!!!

Stoner is the only rider who has proven he can consistently outpace Rossi.
Lorenzo will have to crank it up a notch if he's going to be champ. When he goes head to head with Rossi, he goes down 50% of the time, loses 25% and wins 25%-that won't be enough. His highsides are going to take a cumulative toll.
Stoner used to really fly on the LCR Honda but crashed often too.
Spies will be in there but the Tech 3 customer bike will be a limiting factor unless Yamaha fields 4 factory bikes which they just might do if they can afford it.

Can Stoner handle the pressure if he doesn't win

They have MANY incentives to do so... and the chances are very real that they will. Their prodigy being in a Tech 3 Seat only has upside for the Tech 3 team...

Based on those last two rides and going into his 5th premier class season, the youth is rapidly becoming seasoned: to date, 17 poles, 34 podiums, 20 wins and 1 championship-he'll be on it if the Ducati is everything it's been for the last three years.

with this season fresh in the tank, it's a bit of a stretch to predict next year, but here is my thinking.

Rossi is king, but like all past Kings he will have to relinquish his crown at some point. I am amazed at his hunger still. You would think that after 8 championships he might try F1 or something, perhaps the cat and mouse game is very appealing, and being the old guard is pretty cool, BUT I do not think he will make it 10

I loved Stoner the year he won, he was fricking brilliant, last year was a bit of a debacle but he made a valiant effort, this year what the f**k? I don't think his head is on right for some reason. I though perhaps the getting married thing was all he needed, I guess not. I don't think he will win next year, and we will probably see the same hot and cold performance with some strange excuses for the cold.

Lorenzo is a douche bag, I hate him as much as Pedrosa, he has highsided so many times he must be getting frequent flyer miles from Yamaha. I predict a few poles, a few wins, and lots of high speed cartwheels.

Pedrosa = *********. ever since he took out Nicky when he was leading the title chase I have hated him, it hasn't changed. he is fast but about 3rd fast, no better.

The rest of them forget it, which leaves Benny. Cool as a cucumber, greased lightning fast, quick study, not easily intimidated. It wouldn't make sense for Yamaha to let him chase the MotoGP title with substandard equipment after winning WSBK. I predict they will give him the top shelf gear, let him go head to head with the world, and he will prevail!

Sorry cag, Stoner doesn't like a gun fight. He likes it in the clean air up front. As Viper said in Top Gun, "select zone five and extend"

Jeff, you are letting your personal feelings cloud your better judgement. I got it today. Pleasure doin' bidness wit cha.

i got the arm today as well, I'll be bolting it up tomorrow! likewise!

as far as clouded judgement, we'll see. Rossi's 9 titles obviously favors experience, but Nicky and Stoner both pulled one out with lots of grit, Spies is made of grit. i never heard him make an excuse for not winning once, and he had plenty to complain about if he wanted to. he has the "right stuff" and he will be world motogp champion sooner or later, but i predict sooner.

Sure would like to see an American do it again but, as has already been stated, Ben has a steep learning curve in a different world on slightly inferior machinery.

And you gotta be careful betting against Valentino. He's swift and real smart and he can calmly think while going fast.....a skill not many have.

But, if history repeats, Stoner will have the better bike....one that only he can ride evidently. Since his return he's been dominant and I hope he's learned how to take the pressure from the Operating Doctor. It's gonna be a great season for sure, but my money's on Stoner.

The rest of the field is vital of course....those who win gotta beat someone.

If I was dreaming, Spies would be my pick. But I'm at work so my vote goes to Stoner.
So Shred, are you putting an RT A-arm on? I'll be very curious to hear your impression if you do-

Sooner depends on what Tech 3 does. Giving an A player a B grade bike will not cut it with the American fans. I like Spies. Can Nicky tame the beast. I still say Stoner isn't a gunfighter. If Lorenzo learns for this year's mistakes he can be a consistent winner. He must take advantage of all those frequent flier miles.

Yamaha is the bike this year!

If current machinery remains a given I'll go on record with a dogfight between Stoner and Rossi. Stoner prevailing by a slim margin.

I'd love to see Nicky on top but I'm afraid he just can't compete against Stoner. Heck with the Spaniards gunning for him he has to watch 360 degrees!

Pedrosa is always qualifying up front but can't seem to hang and is something of a crasher when under pressure IMO. Not as bas as Biaggi but bad enough.

Lorenzo should challenge and may well be the dark horse.
