Anyone know of Versus alternatives for those hampered by a corporate battle?

My Mediacom TV tracker says the first Versus airing is Jan 3 at 2:30 PM (Central?) and again at 5:30 PM. Then daily 1/2 hour slots at assorted times.

The best part is the expanded info about the 1/2 show: "Sports non-event, Auto racing" is all it says. Non-event! I like that!

My brother inlaw`s boss races in this event. He is the chief pilot for Robby Gordon and robby gordon racing. He races a hummer. They were hauling all the trucks and suport crap down to port of Charleston a few weeks ago. For the first time since the PD has been around I would love to go see...great racing(can`t see much of it but...) atleast you can tour that part of the world...very nice place with nice people great food and wine and some of the prettiest girls you will ever see at the beach...east coast. Another plus, very little time zone difference.

Here's the link to Jonah Street's team website: Rally Pan Am

They did a nice job last year posting the latest news. The Dakar website is good but it's difficult to get info on riders outside of Coma and Despres.

Go Jonah!

I may criticize the Dakar a bit and shouldn't as it really is our winter fix, but here it goes again : first stage, only 75km covered and first killed already ... not even a rider.
It's cool, it's adventure, it's showing so much beautiful places in the world and it's french. I should really love it. But then I can't help but thinking something is wrong when people there watching the event are killed. It reminds me of kids being rolled over by 400bhp trucks crossing african villages.
Sorry for wasting ... I'll try to enjoy the race anyway.

Well, they already have their first fatality.... unfortunate victim was a 28 year old Argentine woman... a spectator! It happened when a German newcomer lost control of his car and slammed into a bunch of onlookers... naturally, it happened in a spot that was not open for spectators to begin with!

whenever i watch those rally races it always seems like some spectators must have a deathwish or something. there is no way i would stand that close to a road with a car drifting by at 100+ i am surprised more spectators don't get snuffed.

its still sad though...

Yup, that's where most of the fatalities are in the event.
Change of venue didn't help. First one was just claimed.
28 yr old woman. Aside from that, it is an awesome event and spectacle.
Amazing endurance that I can't really imagine. I'm dead at the end of an 8hr roadrace. These guys are amazing.

The org does the best they can to mark off where spectators are not allowed, yet they go there anyway.

On Eurosport, during an interview, one of the drivers said that its common for the spectators to reach out to touch the cars as they go by.... at 100mph. You cant prevent this from happening.

are the OLN and Versus versions the same? I must admit that for an event with 8 hours of driving each day, spread across 3 divisions, a half hour isn't near enough. if the first show is any indication of what the rest of the coverage is going to look like, then I will be disappointed.

Eurosport gives more coverage. 10minutes Interview and 45 Highlights. But there isnt a ton a racing as it is so difficult to cover. Its the nature of the beast.

yep, 3 minutes of bike footage was not what I was hoping for.... I was expecting the same type of coverage they did for the Tour De France.

...it's a pretty cool event, any which way you look at it.

Very strenuous, apparently... when I was IM'ing with my friends down there last night, they were about to keel over, that's how tired they were... and they are not even driving! Just doing team support, Media liason and all that...

Next year, I'll try to time my trip to be down there when it happens...
