I was on a group ride 1,100 miles from home with guys I had just met. Stopping wasn't an option at the time- so I improvised.

Not resetting the odometer was tough. I had a reminder note velcroed to the bars. The funniest part was all the guys that didn't get why I had to have that photo. Like most people- my nature is strange I guess.

Which is why you make a fine Pelican. I too am impressed with the arithmetic skills it took to pull this off. Good on ya CoffeeGuy.

You have lots of great riding just south of you... One of my favorite places to ride... There is a pretty good group of guys up there to ride with too. You didn't buy that bike from Jim Radcliff did you?

No- I don't think I know Jim.

I typically hit the roads around Mid/Southern Missouri on weekend day rides. If you mean Arkansas, I've ridden there a few times, but not enough to really be familiar with the area.

You guys who can rattle off highway numbers and routes (you know who you are) are the ones that really impress me.

I always meet up with guys who say, "take 38 to N, and then go loop around on WW and O, and K is great too! And 27 and 32 West, and so on and so on..."

I'm breaking out my orienteering compass and maps and GPS. And I consider myself to be good with directions- like all proper men.

Remembering routes and Highway names and numbers is not in my trick bag yet.

It is too bad that the hero of many of the counting specialists sometimes found on motorcycle forums retired from the weekly TV series grind. That would be Monk of course.

Back to the guitar thread.... I signed up last night for my first guitar lesson in 15 years. It'll be a week from tonight for a half hour on blues solo technique.

Listening to too much John Mayer Trio lately. Wish me luck.

JM3 is awesome. Pino, Steve and of course, John Mayer. Pino Palladino and Steve Jordan also played on D'angelo's "Voodoo" album, which is also one of my favorites. I am a huge fan (of JM3).
Best of luck to you... instead of getting more lessons, I just continue to stay sucky at the same pace.

A good friend of mine started his own business manufacturing preamps and amplifiers for pedal steel and guitars. He's working on a nice pre for me that hopefully will encapsulate that screamy fat blues sound similar to the Two Rock amps JM uses. (Two Rock = $$$$)

JM3 version of California Dreaming on the Tonight Show was killer. For anyone who hasn't seen it, I highly suggest youtube-ing it, if that is your cup o' tea.

Confiding in my buddies that I'm a huge John Mayer fan at times feels like admitting I have a drinking problem. His talent really is undeniable.

Found picture of my collection. Unfortunately, I can only play acoustic well. Or once I could. Haven't picked one up in a couple years.
So, like so many, they just sit in the closet waiting for a new home...

I bought my Gibson Blueridge in 1973 and took it to SEA with me. My Alverez 12 string is fun to play also. I bought it in 1974 new in Altus, OK. I like the tone much better than the Gibson B-25-12 Sunburst that i had in college. Both have aged well and the tone is better each year. Aging fingers are the problem for me along with lack of time devoted to everyday practice.

I really like that LP Craig and those steel blue Strats have always caught my eye.

I did a few months of guitar lessons and realized that it didn't matter how good the teacher was, I didn't find the time to practice between lessons and got overwhelmed and quit.

Not playing didn't stop me from getting a new guitar for my birthday

Some people can really play, most people think they can play, but most can't. I'm in the last catagory. Doesn't stop me from collecting though. Good quality guitars are always going up in value it seems. What I'd like would be a nice Brazilian rosewood Taylor or Larrivee..

I had a nice black telecaster in the collection for a while, sort of regret selling. Always liked that one Garrett that you have.

I am convinced that the good players have "talent" along with hard work. Others can put hard work in for a lifetime, but - no talent...
