BMW Roundel R1100s accessories

I'm thinkin about getting a signal minder,..I like the idea of running lights (there's a setting to turn your turn signal lights into low voltage running lights) It adds a dimension of safety and visibility for on comming traffic. And it looks kinda cool,..two of my previous bikes had blinker/running lights. I don't know why BMW didn't do that for the R1100s,...any way as long as it dosn't mess w/ my electrical system adversely, I'd like to know if any one else has installed one.

Get HID lights instead. See better & be seen. What's cooler than that?

I've has one for years. It works great and I highly recommend them. Spend the time to run a line from the brake light to suspend the blinker timer while the brake is applied. Other than tapping the brake like (I recommend posi-taps), it's plug and play. It's a snug fit in the relay compartment, but it does fit.

Is this what you are looking for? The S already has a signal canceling system. You just want running lights, yes?

Signal Minder is way more than a canceling system.

The built in canceling system is 45 seconds. The signal minder is programmable. You can have it do 8, 10, or 45 seconds. The timing operation is suspended while the brake is applied.

It also has a 'fast-flash' ability. If you're changing lanes and push and hold the turn signal button, it flashes the turn signals really fast to get people's attention.

It uses PWM for control, so if you use LED turnsignals, you don't need a load resistor.

You can program running light off, low, or high power.

It also allows you to cancel with the same switch you apply with. If you hit the left signal, it turns on, hit it again, it turns off. I prefer that operation.

There's a new feature that mine doesn't have. It can flash the turnsignals when you hit the brakes. I don't really need that because the back of my bike lights up like a christmas tree when the brakes are hit.

For what it's worth, I opted for simple, conventional and inexpensive dual filament 1157 bulbs and sockets. Apologies for the sub-standard phone photos.

I recently installed it on mine and I love it. Haven't done the brake light tap yet. I'm still not sure how to do that. Anyone have good tips on how to do that part?

I wrote a short review and install on my site about the Signal Minder. Check it out if you get a chance.

BMW Roundel R1100sp

R1100sp!,... did you say that you just used duel filament bulbs on all four corners?
And it sounds like you also replaced the sockets,....Is that something available from my local BMW dealer?

I think R1100sp did it from scratch, but if you are less competent with electrics, as I am, install Run-n-Lites.... I've had mine for years....though the rears are not linked to the brake lights.

Mr. Feldman, yes. Both front and rear turn signals incorporate dual filament bulbs with the appropriate sockets. These sockets are different from those that accept a standard, single filament turn signal bulb. There are two "pegs" on the base of a single and dual filament bulb, and one will not fit into the base of another.

You may want to take a look at the photos in that thread I referenced. They will show how I adapted generic sockets to fit my bike. The most recent mod appears at the end of that post and shows how the Yamaha signals replace my modified stock ones.

It's certainly possible an aftermarket company makes dual filament sockets that snap into the front pods like the ones I purchased from an auto parts store...but I can't be sure. I doubt if they would be as inexpensive as the auto parts units, but they may include wiring that I had to fabricate myself. Hope this helps.

Any input how the signal minder might function with LEDs. I have replaced all the edison units with the exception of the tail light.

BMW Roundel

Hi MrFeldman

It definitely will reduce some amount of power consumption. Nice idea, but I think BMW R1100 do not require any such thing. But people loves customizing their bikes. Hope people will enjoy with their bikes by experimenting such things.

Thanks
Kevin Rudd
