My 11S Winter Project
Ridemore and I met Jerry Duke and the rest of the Savannah moffia in Asheville for lunch before escorting them well out of town. Gary was on his H-D XR1200 which is a nice looking street fighter. Jerry was riding his newly rewired R12ST (Dee will like it) and Bob Erb was on his 1150RS. I spent the morning at the NC Tag Office making my 11S street legal. The bike is running fine; but, I'd forgotten how much you have to muscle it into a turn without the GS torque arm and the Ohlins I had on my '04 11S. I dropped by Ivan Messina's shop to pick up a oil filter and crush washer. The dino oil is due for a change according to the po. I learned today that the fuel pump and filter along with fuel line was replaced last June. The right front fork is seeping so they will get a make over at the end of the riding season. The cam chain tensioners are slapping a bit so I'll be looking at those. I ask Ivan to look out for a Laser exhaust system for me. The 2Bros is OK for now. I'm going to enjoy getting grease under my fingernails again. All I did was wash and wax the HP2S.
![]() I aslo think I'll be looking for a front trailing arm to do the Motoyoyo mod on. Has anyone ever gone through there bike replacing corroded bolts? If I go to BMW for them it will prolly look like the stimulus package. Rapid: today was my first experience with your bar backs. Love 'em. Last edited by Guest24; 09-01-2010 at 12:51 PM.. |

That's going to be a lot of bolt Tom. The cadmium has rusted through on most of them.

Nail, FYI, ACE Hardware stores (maybe a different name in your neck of the woods?) has a very nice selection of stainless metric allen bolts (both standard and button head). They're not cheap, but they're significantly cheaper than the OEM BMW bits, and are available in many sizes and lengths. I redid most of my Aprilia RSV Factory with them, and am now mapping out the bolts on my new-to-me 11S....

Do I need to say it again. The R1200ST is one fine machine, great handling and travels well. I think Jerry will really like the bike, especially at night.

Dee, I've said it before, if the ST had come with a cruise control like the RT, I'd be riding one today. Jerry took a gamble on that bike but found a good mechanic that could harness the electrons and bring it back to life. I followed him on the BRP today and he has no trouble floggin' that beast. I asked him how he likes it when the revs get above 8k and he just grinned.

Bubba, try here for the R1100S kit. Hard to beat the price and you don't have to go looking for the right bolts.

BMW R Bike Engine Cover Stainless Steel Fastener Kit | Specialty metric screws for your motorcycle as well as Fuel, Lube, and Air filters for your car or truck.

Those kits are very nice but I',m talking the heavy stuff like the caliper bolts and valve cover bolts.

The forks on this bike have oil in 'em? You sure? That's news to me, I thought that only the front shock had oil.
